Most naturally you’ve heard the term thrown around some (if you’ve been reading tech magazines or blogs). So what exactly is Windows 7 God mode? Of course it cannot bring the big man from upstairs down to earth or give your computer supernatural powers. However it can do some neat things.
First of all, Windows 7 God mode refers to a trick that someone found in the Windows 7 operating system. The “hack” is said to work with Vista as well although some are reporting that in 64-bit versions of the OS, it can cause system instability and even crashes.
To be honest however, Windows 7 God mode is nothing spectacular in its own right. Rather it is just a trick that creates easy access to many functions that you might need on a regular basis. To be more specific, “GodMode” provides access to every type of function available in Windows 7 from creating a network, to installing a printer, managing devices, adding a Bluetooth device, changing your homepage, customize aero features and restoring your computer or reinstalling Windows. Those are just a few of the 285 functions you can do. That said, you might be wondering how you can get it done. It’s a simple trick and the even a novice can do it.
To get into GodMode, all you need to do is create a new folder anywhere in on your computer. I’d suggest you desktop as it will be the easiest way to access the icon. Once you have created the icon, rename it with the following string.
- GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Hit enter on your keyboard to submit the folder name change and your folder will magically transform into the Windows 7 GodMode icon. From here you will be able to do basically anything to your computer. Just be advised that this is administrative access so if you want you can really cause some damage to your computer from this window, however, being how cautious Windows 7 is, it will always ask you to confirm the changes before they are applied, unless you somehow turned down the warning level of the system.
So that is it, Windows 7 GodMode in a nutshell. I’m sure you might be wondering what the big stink was made for, and I am wondering the same thing. However it should be noted that while these features are available from the Control Panel and other places, Windows 7 GodMode adds all these features in one easy to access location. That said, have fun with it and do all the experimenting you want. Just don’t use your new found “god powers” to damage yours or your friends (enimies) computers.
