Will The iPhone 4 Allow Apple To Keep The Top Spot? Part 2

by Admin on June 19, 2010

In the first section of this series “Will The iPhone 4 Allow Apple To Keep The Top Spot?“, we talked about the new iPhone 4 being available and the hardware that was going to come with the new phone. In this section, we will talk about the software and how it has improved on the phone. If you are an avid iPhone user, the one thing that you know that you can count on besides having beautifully designed hardware is having beautifully designed software as well. The Apple struggle for both beauty and perfection just does not stop on the outside of the phone. They expect the same for the applications that are in the phone as well. In the rest of this section, we will give you an in depth look at their new operating system, the iOS, and also some other changes that are coming with the new phone. And believe me, there are plenty.

Along with a name change to their operating system, there has also been some feature changes as well. There were a couple of complaints with last iPhone before this one about the ability of the phone to use more than one third party application at a time. Earlier on, iPhone users did not care about having this feature. But once they were able to see other phones with the same functionality, iPhone users became a little bit irritated that their phone did not do the same thing. Apple has heard the cries and they have introduced their own version of multi-tasking. The multi-tasking on the iPhone is a lot more limited than on the other phones. For example, you are only allowed to run seven applications at any one time. Other phones have no limit on the amount of applications that you are allowed to run. Apple did this so that the phone would remain responsive and the person who owns the phone would not have the ability to slow it down because they had too many apps running at one time. While the new multi-tasking features of the new phone are the biggest upgrade, the OS also has a lot of little features that have been improved as well. These little tweaks that were made helped improved the speed and responsiveness of the phone which is something that Apple really cares about.

A big improvement to the Apple software that is available on the phone came from an unexpected place. This surprising place was the camera of the phone. People were surprised to hear at the iPhone 4 announcement that Apple would be supporting HD video on the new phone. HD video is a lot better quality than the video that is on the phone now and it is something that you are going to want to share with your friends. But fortunately, HD video was not the biggest surprise of the day. The biggest surprise was the ability to edit the video right on the phone. You can now record the video of the movie, edit it, and then send it out, all without leaving the confines of the phone. If you are aware of editing media, then you know that this is usually a very CPU draining process. This really speaks to the power of the new A4 chip. There are a lot of media people that love the ideal of this. But professional media people will not be the only ones that will enjoy this feature. Normal people will as well. Once they learn how to work the features, it will be fun to take your video and do a little editing right then and there.

Also another piece of software that has to do with the camera on the iPhone is the ability to be able to have live video chat right from the phone. The technology is called Facetime and the technology received a serious round of applause when it was introduced. Apple is not the first company that was able to do this with their phone but they are probably the most recognizable.

The price for the new 32GB version of the iPhone will be $299 and the 16GB will be $199. The additions to the iPhone will improve an already great phone.
