A couple of months ago, the announcement of the new version of the iPhone operating system were announced. People were pretty excited by the features that they were hearing was supposed to be on the phone. There were a lot of innovations in the world of smart phones that were happening while the users of the iPhone had to sit and wait. Now that they have heard the words out of Steve Job’s mouth, they can now look forward to a whole new set of features to be released for the phone. Unfortunately for iPhone users, a lot of the features that were announced with the iPhone 4.0 have been available for users of other smart phones for a long time. Apple was becoming a leader of innovation when it came to the smart phone arena but now that there are so many companies that are releasing Android based phones, they will find it hard to be able to out innovate everybody. There will be some features that are on the Android phones that will not come to the users of the iPhone for long periods of time.
Android based phones
The one thing that iPhone users that used the phone heavily kept asking for, was the ability to use more than one application at a time. Before the release of the iPhone 4.0, the only time that you could use more than one application at a time was when one of the applications that you wanted to use was created by Apple themselves. If the other application was created by a third party, then the phone would not let you use it. Meanwhile, other smart phones had this ability for a long time. The main one to really utilize it was Android phones. When the people who used iPhones saw their friends ability to use more than one application at a time, they demanded that Apple do the same for their phones. This was a big reason why people were jail breaking their phones when the iPhone was first released.
iPhone 4G
Another big reason why the new Android phones will be better than the iPhone 4.0 is because it seems like the hardware is improving at a faster pace than the iPhone can. Since there are so many manufacturers that create Android based phones, they are able to release phones with new and improved software and hardware very quickly. The iPhone has one release cycle so they are not able to do that. The releasing of new phones all of the time may cannibalize the other Android phones but at least the users get a great choice. They can either wait for a new iteration of an android phone to be released or they can decide that the phone that they see in front of them is good enough and can purchase that one. Either way, the cycle of hardware makes it very hard for the iPhone to catch up.
If you are thinking about getting an iPhone because it was the lead phone for the last couple of years, you may want to rethink your decision. The Android is the fastest growing phone out there and pretty soon even the IPhone 4.0 will be surpassed by the newer version of Android phones to be released.
