Why exercise is very important when losing weight

by Admin on March 29, 2010

Few people really love physical exercise and workouts, but it’s very good for us for a number of reasons. Exercise can become more bearable if we constantly remind ourselves of its benefits. One important benefit is that it helps us lose weight faster and more effectively, while building a stronger, more resistant and beautiful body.

People will be more likely to try something if they know how it works. Here’s how physical exercise works for weight loss. In a nutshell, our body needs a certain number of calories per day to function properly. If you eat more than that, you’ll gain excess weight. If you eat less than that, you’ll lose weight, but feel more tired. And if you eat just enough calories and exercise, you will lose weight and gain muscle mass. It’s that simple.

Here’s how exercise helps you lose weight:

1. Physical activity helps, r should I say, forces your body to burn calories, i.e. fat. If you run a mile, you will use about 900 calories and feel very tired, depending on how obese you already are. For every 3,500 calories you burn – you lose a pound of fat.

2. Exercise builds up your muscles. And muscles burn calories. This will have a long-lasting effect, as your muscles will burn up more fat even if and after your stop dieting and exercising (which you shouldn’t do).

3. Exercising will increase the amount of serotonin released in your brain. Serotonin is a neuro-transmitter that has an important role in regulating anger, depression, sleepines andother feelings, among which is appetite. It also helps increase self-confidence and release endorphine, which will give you a sense of well-being and help you forget about hunger and food. Therefore, more serotonin = more lost weight.

4. Some types of exercise will reduce your appetite. These include high intensity activities that require a lot of concentration, like boxing, aikido, kendo and other martial arts. And if your appetite is gone, you will eat less. So by you reducing your appetite, exercise helps you want less food, which will lead to you losing weight.

5. Exercise will improve your overall health and help reduce the risks of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and other problems. When your body is healthy, you feel better and are more apt to exercise even more.

Physical exercise doesn’t apply to just workouts in the gym. Any physical activity is exercise. Just by moving instead of watching the TV or using the computer you will get your blood flowing and your muscles working, which can play a good role in losing weight. Jogging every morning for 20-30 minutes can be enough to lose 10-20 pounds a month if you also follow a healthy eating diet. So, get moving and you’ll see for yourself how physical exercise affects weight loss.
