The iPhone 4 was officially unveiled this past Monday at the WWDC, although, it didn’t have that usual spark of awe since the prototype was leaked a couple of months ago. Regardless, the iPhone 4 still boasts the “wow” factor, and people are eagerly awaiting the release of the smartphone with its ever so impressive features.
The iPhone 4 has a great new design, and it includes a much higher quality camera and comes with the ability to shoot videos in HD. It also features a front-facing camera, which easily compliments it live video calling capability. Also an improvement from the iPhone 3Gs, the iPhone 4 has a much better resolution, in fact, four times that of the former. And for those of you who can’t get the “slim factor” out of your system, the new iPhone measures a quaint 9.3mm thick; so, yes, the iPhone 4 takes the lead in the race to be thin, and it is has been dubbed the thinnest smartphone not yet available on the market.
As is the case with all iPhone releases, you better believe that the iPhone 4 is not a smartphone to disappoint. Not only does it have a better screen resolution at 326 ppi, but Apple also managed to squeeze in a 3-axis gyroscope. So, this new iPhone is now capable of detecting angles of rotation, including pitch, yaw and roll; plus it can sense rotation around any point of gravity, and when coupled with the previously accessible accelerometer, the result is true six-axis motion-sensing.
Now, it’s no secret that motion-sensing is a big hit in the gaming industry, but add it to the iPhone technology, and you’re sure to have a big hit. Many gamers are already used to being able to tilt from left to right and see their motions mimicked within their game play, so, it’s not hard to decide whether this was a move in the right direction. Apple has already making big waves in the technology sector, and a motion-sensing smartphone is just going to help them take a bigger share.
The iPhone 4 also features a battery upgrade. It’s bigger, and more powerful, giving the new iPhone a talk time of 40 percent more than its former counterpart. Of course, the gamers should be a happy crowd because it means longer playing time in between needed charges.
The iPhone 4 also includes a slight OS upgrade which adds a new folders system that makes for easy app grouping. It automatically creates a folder, with a corresponding name, for any similar apps that you select. So, you can have your gaming apps in one folder and your social networking apps in another; this new feature makes for easy organization and quick access to your favorites.
Definitely an upgrade from the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 is a sight to see. The iPhone 4 is slated to begin shipping later this month, although definite pricing has not been set in all markets. As with all the other iPhone models, the iPhone 4 is GSM compatible and will be available from a select few mobile phone carriers, but it has been rumored that Apple is prepping a CMDA model for mass production this fall.
