The Apple iPad is a great multi-functional universal computer that actually has the potential to replace your laptop or desktop PC. It can do almost any task that your laptop can, while being smaller, lighter and very portable. The only reason you would choose to use a laptop or desktop computer over the iPad is if you like big screens, but considering that you hold the 9.7 inch iPad screen closer to you, it shouldn’t be a problem.
While there are a lot of great apps aimed at productivity and work, the iPad also truly shines when it comes time for play. It has enough entertainment apps and games to satisfy everyone’s needs. There are actually twice as many apps on the marketplace that fall under the entertainment category than apps under the business and productivity categories, combined.
You can surf the web, watch online videos, stream paid movies, music and free TV channels, watch the video and listen to the music on the device itself and play wonderful 3D games with the iPad’s great 9.7 inch display and sensitive but precise accelerometer.
Here are some of the best apps for entertainment for the iPad. They’re almost a must have if you have the time, space and, in some cases, money to download and install them.
Yahoo! Entertainment
This is a great free application from Yahoo that provides you with a lot of information about any TV shows that are currently airing or are about to air. You can plan your TV viewing using the interactive Program Guide, watch free videos provided by Yahoo and read the latest news in any category using this iPad application.
Netflix
With the introduction of online streaming movies, Netflix has started the revolution among DVD renting companies, and now many more are following suit. But until everyone has switched, Netflix remains the best source for online movie streaming, and they also have the largest collection of movies available. With a price tag of $15 (I think there’s a $6 discount right now) for their monthly subscription it really doesn’t make sense to rent physical DVD’s, when you can instead stream a video instantly whenever you want.
ABC Player
ABC Digital has thankfully jumped on the whole Internet TV bandwagon (a lot of other companies are also doing it) and not only have they created an online streaming channel, but also released their own apps for desktop computers, and now the iPad. Kudos to them, because thanks to this app, you can freely stream their channel right onto your iPad at very good quality and speed, and watch some of their best shows (and sadly, commercials) whenever they air.
Marvel Comics
Marvel’s comic reading application or the iPhone has become very popular, but due to the small screen, it’s not that comfortable to read the comics on it. Now the iPad is in a totally different league. With its large screen and 1024×768 resolution, you can easily view and read full page comics in a comfortable manner, like you were reading the actual paper magazine.
Real Racing HD
This is currently the best racing simulator for the iPad, and it has the best graphics and controls possible. Only EA’s Need for Speed can come close. Really worth installing if you’re into cars or racing. The best solution would be to install both NFS and Real Racing, as the former is focused on street cars, while the latter features racing and rally cars and race tracks instead of city streets.
Ocean Blue
Ocean Blue is an excellent application (some people call it a game) for relaxing and learning a lot about aquatic life. The game has excellent 3D graphics of underwater sceneries and fish, and you learn about them as you sort of swim along them. Children also love it and it’s better for their brain than some shooters or even racing.
Cogs HD
Cogs HD is very similar to the above application, only instead of relaxing you, it makes your brain work. The game is a tinkerer’s and creative person’s dream: you can build various achiness using parts like gears, pipes, springs and even balloons
. Again, it’s a great application for kids and can really make them (and adults) bring out the creativity inside them.
Mixr
This is an amazing unique (for now) application that replicated the function of a DJ turntable! Thanks to the iPad’s great touch screen, you no longer have to spend $2000 for a turntable to create a nice DJ mix party at your home or local club. And in conjunction with other apps, the functionality can be extended by a very high degree.
There are many more iPad apps in the entertainment category, just take a look at what the marketplace has to offer. You can definitely find some great and truly useful applications if you search for them correctly.

wow, cool! Thanks for sharing!
I like ABC Player and Real Racing HD very much@!
And here I share some more ipad apps, which are my treasures: http://www.ifunia.com/ipad-column/top-10-best-free-ipad-apps.html
I don’t have Real Racing but I’ll have to check that out if you say it’s better than Need for Speed. For entertainment on my iPad, I play Need for Speed a lot, read books on my Kindle app. and watch TV through my employer’s app., DISH Network’s Dish Remote Access. The latter gives me tons of entertainment by streaming all my programming, both live TV and anything on my DVR, straight to my iPad just like as if I were watching my TV at home. It’s by far the best TV app. I’ve seen, and it deserves to be on your list in my opinion. Thanks for the suggestions though, I’m going to have to try Mixr too, that looks pretty fun.
