Google In Talks With MasterCard and Citigroup For Android Mobile Payment System

Google plans to make their Android devices pay for your purchases in stores by offering a mobile payment service. The company is currently in talks with MasterCard and Citigroup which it plans to partner with in their latest service.

People who own android devices simply have to wave their smartphones over a reader to pay for their purchases. This is made possible by an NFC (Near Field Communication) sensor which will be included inside every Android device starting this year.

Google will not get a cut out of the transaction fees. The company plans to target people with specific ads and discounts that match their profiles and location.

Those concerned about security over this wireless payment method should be pleased to know that it is much more secure than swiping your physical credit card. The payment information is much harder to steal since the technology involved is much more complex than that of the magnetic stripe.

Mozilla Firefox 4 Beta is Now Integrated With 3-D Graphics

Mozilla released a new Firefox 4 beta version for PCs and laptops recently which is featuring much expanded support for the 3-D graphics with a revamped Firefox add-on manager. Mozilla introduced several of the enhancements to the mobile release of Firefox 4 beta on the mobile side for the smartphones which is based on Google Android OS and even Maemo platforms of Nokia. The new 3-D enhancements of popular browser which are based on WebGL which is an open standard for the accelerated 3-D graphics which render on the web and that actually eliminates the need of users to install a special plug-in. for that reason, developers are able to render dynamic visual experiences directly inside the browser window. This is confirmed by Firefox Product Manager Mike Beltzner.

You may have already heard about Android version 3, code named Android 3.0 Gingerbread (the version and code name is still subject to change). The new OS is supposed to be released by the end of 2010, but the Software Development Kit for developers will come out as soon as next week.

This is still only a rumor, but it definitely wouldn’t be a surprise, as developers need to work on their apps to be compatible with the future Android release as soon as possible and weed out any bugs by the time updates are available for existing phones or new Android 3 phones are released.

Android 3.0 Gingerbread

Android 3.0 Gingerbread will bring support for new technologies, improved media capabilities, a faster and more refined UI that is integrated deeper into the core (which should remove the need for third party UIs like Motorola’s terrible MotoBlur), support for higher resolutions and other improvements. The OS is highly anticipated, even more so than version 2.2, which finally brought support for Flash in the Android Web browser.

The SDK itself includes quite a few updates that will enable app development for the new Android 3.0 Gingerbread. The sensor, geo fixation and telephony issues have finally been sorted out, and among the features added are the support for custom USB Vendor IDs, a new Google API add-on which provides an updated external library, the ability to restore any permissions when you uninstall an upgraded app, and much more.

We’ll just have to wait and see if the new SDK will actually be released next week or if this is just a rumor coming from the over excited Android fans. I do hope it’s the former, though.

The free version is a bit limited (no support for multiple backgrounds, no reply-to-all, no desktop widgets, a few other features are missing) , but should be enough for most basic users. The paid version is $5 and includes lifetime support and features like shake for refresh, tweet outbox (schedule tweets when offline), multiple accounts, and a few other cool things.
