This cheap Android app uses GPS as well as an estimating algorithm for when you are going through a tunnel or somewhere where there the signal becomes interrupted for a little while.

The Android platform is growing at a rapid rate that it is expected to lead the smartphone market this year dethroning perennial leader Symbian. The popularity of this operating system makes it an attractive target for malicious attack that just this year alone there have been several reports of rogue applications making their way at the Android Marketplace.

Google’s Upcoming Cloud-Based Music App Accidentally Leaked

Speculations that Google was about to release its own cloud based music service similar to what Amazon has just released were further confirmed when a test version of the latest Android Market was accidentally made available to various Android devices.

A test version of the Android Market began showing in some Samsung Galaxy S models was similar to the current Android Market 2.3.4 save for a preview bar on top. The applications available were all labeled test which prompted people to believe that this version is meant for developers and not consumers.

One interesting application that popped up was the Music app which is similar to the Android 3.0 Honeycomb music app. This application has the ability to play music from the cloud through its “Stream Music via Wi-Fi” feature.

It has been reported previously that Google was planning a cloud based music service and this application might be used by Android smartphones to access the user’s personal collection on the cloud.

Our next app lets you control your personal computer from your Android device. The VNC Viewer Android app is very easy to use and you can use your computer in the same manner as if you would be sitting right in front of it. Keep in mind that you also need the REAL VNC desktop app to install the VNC server on your Windows, Mac or Linux computer. Navigating the desktop is a breeze! You get an imaginary wheel scroll and also a scrolling bar. VNC Viewer works great with Mac machines by using the Remote Management option. Google Pulls Out Grooveshark From Android Market Over Copyright Issue

Streaming music app Grooveshark is the latest application to be booted out of the Android Market. In a move seen by many as Google’s way of cleaning up its online store of copyright infringement applications, the company sent letter to Grooveshark informing them that their app was to be taken down.

No exact details were provided by Google on this action however representatives of the company said that the application violated the Android Market policy.

Grooveshark allows people to upload their music library and share their songs with other users. The company already has an arrangement with EMI on making available its music library however it is currently being sued by Universal Music Group. An estimated 6 million songs are available in the Grooveshark library.

This controversial application was also initially available in the Apple app Store however it was also removed last July. The elimination of Grooveshark from the Android Market is also a good move for Google since it will soon launch its cloud based music service. The less competition, the better it is for its service to gain lots of users.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablets Struggling Due To Limited Apps

Those of you who have already gotten the Motorola Xoom might be disappointed that there are only a few app choices for Honeycomb devices. It has been more than a month already since the release of the Xoom and the number of applications has still to break the 100 mark.

The Android Marketplace has only 50 applications available that are designed for the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform. The rest are just resized applications that originally run on smartphones and are redesigned to run on tablets.

Motorola has even released their own list of applications that are compatible with the Motorola Xoom and it only numbers a low 17 applications. The low number of applications could very well be attributed to Google who released the SDK for the Honeycomb late. The SDK was made available to developers only a month before the actual release date of the Xoom.

If you’re planning to explore the different applications available for the Honeycomb then don’t get excited about it yet since there’s not much to see as of this time.

Mozilla Released Firefox 4 Final Version Now Available For Android Device

Mozilla has just released their mobile version of Firefox 4 for the Android platform. The company boasts that their latest browser is up to three times faster than the default Android browser while offering a synch feature which isn’t available in other mobile browsers.

Firefox 4 for Android however has some system requirements that have to be met such as an ARMv7 CPU and at least 512 MB of RAM. The mobile version is no different from the desktop version since it uses the same Gecko engine, JavaScript compiler and also comes with HTML5 support. You will also be able to customize your browser through the add-ons feature which works the same way as the desktop version.

One of the key features of this browser is its synch feature which makes you easily access your bookmarks, history, passwords and other personal data from your desktop to your mobile. The only drawback so far is that this mobile version does not come with Flash support.
