Installation

I have taken Sun Direct HD subscription in August 2009. At that time they have installed and activated with in a day with regular SD Dish. And again they came to me in January 2010 with a Big Dish(Double to the regular Dish) and installed again. After one week They changed my old HD STB with a new SAMSUNG HD STB.

Picture quality

Picture quality of SUN Network channels like SUN, GEMINI, KTV, SUN Music, Gemini Music, Teja, Surya etc is very good when compared with Big TV or TataSky(As I used earlier). I didn’t find any pixels in these channels even in fast moving scenes. I am very very happy with the quality of these channels. But other regional channels like ETV, Zee telugu, etc are not showing that much quality of Big TV or TataSky. And remaining Hindi and English channels are having the same quality of other DTHs.

HD Channels:

In the beginning They have provided only 2 HD channels. 1 was Regional movies and another was NGC HD. And the quality of the HD channels is awesome.

Now SD is telecasting 6 HD channels.

Audio Quality

Audio quality is very good compared with Big TV and TS. There is no hissing sound. When we connected it to a HT, it is giving experience like a theater for HD channels.

Software

Really Sun Direct HD STB has a good software. The channel changing is very fast. And there is no hanging problem and no heating problem and no picture freezing. Menu display is very nice and u can’t get this type of display in any other DTH. Because the STB is from SAMSUNG so they designed menus like SMASUNG LCD TVs. One thing I can say “When we operating the STB, we can feel like we are using a high quality and valuable system”.

USB Port

STB has the USB port and it is absolutely working for MP3 and JPEG picture viewing.

Remote

It Looks very cute. This has the same shape and buttons as SAMSUNG LCD TVs. It is common remote for both SAMSUNG LCD TV and STB.

HD Logo

Very cute Logo. It wont disturb at all. Previously SUN Direct water mark was appear in the middle of the HD regional movie channel. Now they removed this water mark and HD logo is appearing at right bottom of all HD channels and it is cute. Normal SD channels didn’t have any SD logo except 4 to 5 channels.

Overall

I am very much satisfied with Sun Direct HD STB and I am watching only HD channels in my SAMSUNG 26’’ LCD TV as there is a very big difference in the quality of HD channels and SD channels. I never felt that I spent more for HD. I am enjoying HD content.

I have an NTSC tv and sunhd did not work on that by default.It did not have an option to select NTSC.Luckily I have a High end video scaler by the name of lumagen which does the job of pal to ntsc conversion.So those who are not satisfied with the 100-200$ cheap convertor boxes can go with the video processor if you are quality conscious.

Hello Yogesh,

Yes HD technology will effect on channel package rates since it’s costly to broadcast channels in High Definition! So you can expect channel price higher for DTH and Cable operators, but once we have enough HD Viewers and channels we may see channel price will down but not in next 1-2 years! We have to pay Rs 25 to 100 Rs per channels!

SUN DTH has one of the worst customer service unhelpful desk I have registered more than 10 days back still have not received a call from them. Dish TV called within 10 minutes of registration

SUN DTH tied up with local agents does day robbery. I am one of the victim of their advt.stating offer on world cup final on HD connection. My older connection was dismantled and promised connecting me HD the same day. The service person took 300 bucks for various connectors and promised me to help me during my need. Seems he is also part of the robbery team. Two days called him over phone for more than 100 times. He is not even picking like the customer care does. When the agency was called up they were helpless and they denied giving me the money back.

Just for two HD channels whole package rate is (Rs.9990/- p.a.(whcih works out to around Rs.800/- p.m.)+STB+installation is too sky high price, when other DTH services are providing these two channels for a economical rate. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, ONE CANNOT EXPECT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY, POLITE & PROMPT SERVICES which makes everyone think twice before opting for Sun DTH.

One of the worst service provided by them.Everytime there will be no signal or some or other problem.
Customer care is worst average waiting time is 20 mins and remember it is not toll free…i waited for 20 mins and the call will get disconnected automatically after tat.so dont be a victim of it

My sun direct functioning is dead for the past four days. There is sufficient balance for another four months in my account. In spite of repeated complaints, no response. This not my first such experience. Also, frequently the channels go off. The worst of customer services. If one wants to view all the channels, has to pay in thousands for ‘adons’. Whereas, a cable provider with set top box collects only Rs.300/- pm for about 300 channels. Sun direct – indirect money looter and provider of torture/headache. Ones you obtain the connection, there ends your customer relationship. Many in my locality have switched on again to cable connection. I have also decided. How about others?

The channels have lot of signal problems and service center never attends to it, the customer center executives as well as managers are useless, they all keep fooling you with new reason everytime you call them. They tell that some body from distributor will visit to solve the issue, but this is going on since last two months. I have fought a lot with them but all in vain. To add to it they did not even had proper distributor number with whom I could cancel my sun tv connection.

This is a serious advice…do not ever buy this…dont think of this even in your dreams.

I see a lot of people talking about NTSC and PAL. Sun HD has four outputs 576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i. The TV that support only PAL you can only use 576i/p. For TVs that only support NTSC you can use 720p/1080i. Hope this helps

As my amplifier do not have digital input option and only has analog input, is there any way to experience 5.1 surround from sun hd dth with my existing amplifier?

sir, i have sony viao laptop with hdmi supporting port. can i have HDMI connection to my lap without any other tuner cards? or do i need any other supporting devices for installation?

I am using sun direct for last one and half year and faced many problems. Especially for customer care service, they rather solve the proble nor never listen ur proble. They will give utmost false commitments…

The channels have lot of signal problems and service center never attends to it, the customer center executives as well as managers are useless, they all keep fooling you with new reason everytime you call them. I contact sun direct customer care about the satellite change but the advice me to do nothing as they will send their technician to align the dish to the new satellite.

i can only tell that the experience with sun direct has been pathetic for the last few weeks…. When we call their customer support (I dont know whether it is their own or it is outsourced to some third rate party), we get the same standard words played back at us : Your problem will be resolved at the earliest ….

Different people come online when we call the support and give the same line as the answer. We have been having issues in the lasst 1 month for not getting the entire Sun tv, Vijay tv etc. in our installation and till date even though we call them up everyday to register the complaint, NO ONE has come in and resolved it till date for the last 1 month.

I heard from another source that this is primarily because that they are not paying the distributors and support people when they come and fix the problem to such an extent that they are loosing out the distributors and support people at a rapid rate. Maybe Mr. Maran is busy taking out all his money out from Sun Direct and divert it into his new investment – Spicejet airlines….

The experience was very pleasant and positive till 3 months back for a duration of around 1 year but the last 3 months, I would rate it at around 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest)

A strong NO to go with SUN Direct but if you still want to go with it, do not say that nobody warned you in this forum…..

Dear Sir,

I am also one of the Sun Direct HD (41347105631) customer. I am facing problem (Color Jig zaag) from starting day. I have given complaint so many times to Customer care & Distributor. But no one rectify till today.

So please clear the above said issue as soon as possible.

sun direct is a hopless compny. and network is not well. sun direct customer care is usefollow’s..all poples warning first affol dont use sun direct.. costemer care is idiot’s not care in poeple.. u care first affol custemers..dont take customers money because u will first neatly work and after improve ur compny……u will not neatly work dont take believe people’s ur’s compny ok..it’s mind it neatly work last warning of u…ur’s compny customer care
