Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Android Tablet Goes Official

by Admin on September 3, 2010

Apple was the first to launch a tablet in the market — the iPad, a magical and revolutionary device that will make people burn in envy, and yes, make girls earn instant interest on you. Apple’s launch was closely followed by announcements from other manufacturers including RIM, LG, ACER, MOTOROLA, HP, and now in the list is Samsung. The Samsung line of manufacturers has already entered the tablet business, and if the current reviews of this amazing Android 2.2 powered device is anything to go by, it just could be the best thing that ever happened to the human race after sliced bread. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is slated to be introduced to consumers very soon during the Q3 launch.

This review is made in comparison with the Apple iPad as it is currently considered t be the best in the market.

The marvelous Samsung Galaxy tablet is slightly compact compared to Apple iPad thanks to the 7-inch screen, with the iPad sporting a 10-inch screen. This screen size makes the Tab ‘pocketable’ and portable at the same time. It is quite solid while in the hands, which is partially attributed to the weight, it features a light-gray colored plastic on its back side.

The camera of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is outstanding, featuring a large viewfinder which gives you a broad view of the image you are supposed to capture. It has options for brightness, scene mode, ISO, white balance, contrast, effects, sharpness, and saturation. A single touch button will switch you from camera to video mode.

Samsung clearly named the Galaxy Tab a “Portable Smart Web Book”, and the moment you get yourself one you will understand why. Important to understand is that this Tab was meant more for surfing than doing anything else, and because of that it is rich in features that facilitate surfing the internet. Notably is the Android WebKit Browser, which happens to be the most advanced mobile browser yet.

This browser fully supports the shrinking of text basically to ensure it complements the width of the screen thereby making it easy for you to read. Needless to mention, it is a very handy feature as you will only be scrolling vertically and no need to scroll horizontally. It has a very fine resolution that eliminates the need for zooming when browsing when in the landscape mode but all in all, you should expect to have the best browsing experience ever.

Unlike the iPad, the Galaxy Tab comes fully equipped with Wi-Fi + 3G support, GPS Module and will have the great ability to not only receive but also place normal voice calls on a mobile network, a feature that notably lacks in the iPad.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab seems to be in a strategic position to compete in the already established tablet market because currently it is only the iPad that is giving it a run for its money. Both tablets are pretty the same at the moment with the iPad having the advantage of being the first to be launched, featuring a bigger screen and advanced software. The Galaxy Tab on the other hand offers you an unrivaled browsing experience thanks to its ability to support Flash Player 10.1, features an in-built camera and fully supports all mobile phone functionalities.

Well, it’s only a matter of time as we wait anxiously and in bated breathes for its launch come mid September. Currently though, the Samsung Galaxy Tab has proven to be a very promising tablet for consumers who are in search of a more pocketable device. It is expected that it will be a successful addition in the market if not for anything else for it features everything that is needed and more because the Apple iPad has already established a tablet market which is insatiable to say the least.

yes, its a real competitor for apple ipad. Size of galaxy tab is so good, that it comes very handy, easy to handle. And its weight is half of the weight of ipad. Since it has android 2.2, OS and application support is very good. Ipad does not have camera, galaxy pad having two cameras.

I think the Galaxy Tab is going to be a great gadget. In my opinion the features and technical specifications of the Tab outweigh the iPad. For example, the fact that its smaller and lighter in weight, the fact that it has 2 cameras, and the microSD card feature are all really impressive. Its also good that it is Adobe Flash player compatible.

My only concern is the price. It seems to me like Samsung are trying to price this as a mobile phone rather than as a tablet PC. This is why the cheapest model of the iPad is nearly £100 cheaper than the cheapest model of the Galaxy Tab.

Personally I reckon this will benefit free Galaxy Tab websites who are able to offer the Tab sim free. People will be looking for the best possible deals on the gadget, and will not want to be tied down to lengthy network contracts

i prefer the iPad… It just seems like the “copies” is good when they arrive, but with the next release of iPads they are behind again… lots of competions this days to win one as well, if you dont have one… Have you noticed the new campaign from the it security company sophos… easy to win if you like to share things… :)

Samsung has confirmed that it has already sold one million tablets so far and thus it is really putting a tough competition on Apple’s iPad. Let us see how Samsung perform with it’s new tablets launching in January 2011.

With the new google honeycomb operating system hitting the market, any chance of the Galaxy getting this op system?

DISH Network has TV everywhere that works on Tablets, Smartphone, and Laptops. This Galaxy Tab will work on DISH Network equipment. Being a DISH Network employee and subscriber I can tell you that TV everywhere works with having a Sling adapter connected to a 722 or 722k receiver and internet access.
