Currently, one of the most downloaded app for the iPad is the Marvel Comics iPad app. This iPad app is essential for fans of comics and graphic novels. One thing that will delight iPad users is that this app is free and can simply be downloaded from iTunes.
The layout of the Marvel Comics app is quite user friendly and clear. This app created a reading experience that was quite impressive. This electronic alternative to reading comics is quite close to the feeling of holding the real life comic book. One of the features of this app is Marvel’s “guided view” that imitates the effect of turning a page from an actual comic book. Also, throughout the comic, you can experience a panel by panel flow. Another feature of this app is to read the comic page by page allowing users to zoom into the comic and manipulate the pages accordingly.
Luckily for users, Marvel Comics provides a library of hundreds of comics to read through this app even though not all of their titles are free. We can easily download comics of our favorite superheroes such as Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain American and much more. This app also allows users to read the initial three pages of a comic before purchasing it. Each issue costs around $2.00 and will be permanently saved in your Marvel account. This is also a very interesting feature because if users lose or upgrade their iPad, they will still have an opportunity to rebuild their digital comic book collection since all purchased content can be downloaded again to their new device.
With that in mind, there are only a few concerns regarding this app. The first concern is that a huge portion of Marvel’s library of comic books is not available in electronic or digital format. This is not a big problem since this app is free but most diehard comic book fans might be disappointed at not being able to access Marvel’s entire library through their iPad. When this app initially launched, user could access a library of about 500 Marvel comic books. There is a good possibility that Marvel will enlarge their library with the purchase of more iPads by consumers. Hopefully, Marvel will also add graphic novels to their digital library and not just single issues.
Another concern about this app we have discovered when writing this review is that the Marvel Comics iPad app does not acknowledge Marvel’s Digital Comics subscriptions service. This forces users to purchase a specific comic twice if they wish to read that comic on their iPad. We hope that this problem is only a technical issue and a business plan for Marvel to increase their income. It is important to remember the specific platform you use when downloading a comic book if you own both Marvel Digital Comic susbscription service and the Marvel Comics app on your iPad.
These concerns are insignificant if we review the benefits from this app. Expect hours of entertaining comic book reading from the Marvel Comics iPad App.
