When you first take a look at the Nokia N8, you automatically say; “Wow !”. It is like one of the movies at the cinema. It is “bigger than life”. Well, maybe not that big. Take a look at some of the features on this super smartphone from Nokia called the N8.
This is a direct upgrade from a N900 if you have one. It happens to have a small difference in control. The N8 uses the Symbian operating system. The N900 uses the Maemo ( Meego )operating system. The Symbian operating system is the most popular in the world and much more support so look for more development in this area.
The primary camera on the Nokia N8 is an astounding 12 megapixels. That is way more than you will ever need. But this helps the video portion take high definintion films. The N8 includes an HDMI connector and surround-sound microphone. The Dolby Digital plus gives a very high quality sonic experience. The N8 connects it to a home system and allows enjoyment of a high definition screen like any other DVD player. Videos are recorded in 720p at 25 frames per second for those who keep up with the standards. Nokia includes a video light for video recording and a xenon flash for taking photos. Most people prefer the xenon flash over the LED flash, since it is more powerful. A secondary camera allows for video conferencing.
Social bookmarking and file-sharing is a strong point for the N8. It can upload a photo directly to Facebook. You can see live events on Facebook on your calandar as they happen. Tweets from twitter are loaded automatically. All the social activity is combined in one place on the home screen of the Nokia N8.
Speaking of home screens, there are multiple choices of home screens. The Ovi Maps feature is included. Nokia gives free lifetime navigation with their Ovi Maps to the N8. Nokia brags that you will “never get lost again”.
The web browser is a speed demon thanks to the Wi-Fi connection ability in the “N” mode. If a router is not yet outputting the “N” mode, the N8 is backwards compatible for the older Wi-Fi networks. This model does not yet have the even faster WiMaX connection ability. What it does have in the way of digital connectivity is just about everything. There is EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, and a Micro USB connector. An infrared connector is not included, but who uses those things anyway ?
Another amazing feature of the Nokia N8 is the memory capacity. It has sixteen gigabytes ( with a “g” ) and a slot for a MicroSD card. The MicroSD card can be up to 32 gigabytes for a total of 48 gigabytes. Remember, that is removable ( portable ). The RAM is rated at 256 megabytes and the ROM is 512 megabytes.
If you like the Samsung Galaxy screen you will like this Nokia N8 also. It is 3.5 inches of viewing pleasure, mainly because of its brilliant color. It is not the older LCD technology, it is the brighter AMOLED version. The screen resolution is a great 360 by 640 pixels with sixteen million colors to show.
The battery is a bit larger than most, at 1200 mAh. That gives up to two hours of talk time on 2G networks and five and a half hours on 3G. The music play is over two days on one charge. Get a quick look at this smartphone if you like new stuff. Nokia is called the “innovator” for a good reason.
