Spresent is an online tool that allows users to create presentations. It works much like PowerPoint, except for the fact that it is Web-based–and it is free, unlike the famous MicroSoft product.
In order to make this Web application work for you, you are going to need a browser that supports Flash 6 or a later Flash version. This is necessary because the presentations you create will be available in Flash format. You will not have to install anything on your computer, since Spresent is not a plugin or add-on. It is available in several languages, such as English, Spanish, French and German.
When creating your presentation with this Web app, you will be given the option to work with a list of pre-built animations for elements such as headlines, clip art and tables, or make custom animations for items like buttons and photos. The online tool also offers you an image library, from which you can take a variety of pictures to enhance your slide shows, making them more visually appealing to their target audience. It is possible to use text documents as starting points for your presentations as well.
With this online alternative to PowerPoint you can store your slides on Web-based folders. This feature is convenient if you plan to access you files from different computers. You can also share your folders with family, friends and colleagues.
Unfortunately, Spresent does not make it possible to get off-line presentations and stand-alone Flash files. If you want to keep a copy of your slide show on your hard disk, for the time being your only choice is to download or print it as a PDF file.
There is also a desktop version of the program available. It is not free, except for the 10-day trial. Nevertheless, if all you want is to create Flash slide shows that you can share on the Internet, Spresent as a Web app will be enough for you.
