New Software Upgraded In Videocon D2H

India’s most emerging Direct To Home Operator Videocon D2H upgraded their Set Top Box Software on 30/03/2010. Here at ShaswatPatel.com, we will give you information about latest changes after Software upgrade in Videocon D2H.

On 30-10-2010 , d2h updated the software, It was a really promising update according to my experience, and here are the main features of this update,

Modification to the visual theme,

This was one of my problems with d2h, The blue/grey/voilet theme of the earlier software version required some urgent changes, It has made lists and selections easy, The yellow colored highlighting now makes lists easier to read. See the theme colors from earlier version

The selection appears much better with yellow highlighting. Now see the channel list, Here to the contrasting color scheme helps in clear reading

So we can say the main highlight of this update is the highlighting. However d2h forgot to do the same for Radio, Same old highlighting, They should have added the yellow highlighting here too

Now the other improvement is that the guide button of the remote can now be used to set the reminders and schedules of all sub-categories in the list, Earlier if you press this button the guide opened for sure, But if you select some sub-category, (say kids), it only showed “kids is empty, press any key” message, it is working now , But the EPG speed is still slow, So slow that you can actually take one screen shot of the blank screen in between, check the three screen shots below

Now select a category and press OK , see the slow change , this blank screen shows up in the middle

Even after waiting the EPG is still loading

Other than this , I feel the channel change times have improved and boot time itself has become faster, The normal boot screen is now back after Holi, Let us hope they wont update software to simply put new screens for Vishu, Baisakhi, Easter etc now. Heres the boot screen , this boot screen is the “Correct One”, Good to see it back.

Another major change is the VC-card number (fingerprinting) flashing on pay-channels, Well this one is now on a transparent blue coloured background, A welcome change and also does not obstruct your view very much, A very welcome change, Also it is to be noted that the d2h remote is not locked when this number is flashing, It is just there on the screen even if you change the channel when it is flashing, That is a good change, You do not need to miss the ball when the six is hit , You can actually see it. Even with the number flashing, I tried to get a screenshot, but sorry, that number don’t flash at my convenience, Also pressing the info button, brings the info very fast, However the temperature etc, info is still not available for every town in the list.

Overall the speed and performance of the box , Except for the crawling EPG has improved now.”

Now a major fear for all users was that the software update may actually lock us out from viewing FTA, But that proved baseless this time , Satellite addition and management do work even now, Good Going d2h, We love you for the same, That is what makes us back you as against all others,

This is from C-band Asiasat-5, Well adding c-band frequencies still dont work, Even though I tried selecting the lb type as c-band, You need to do it by using the workaround, we discussed earlier, But the fact that it is there is good news, Hope they will correct it sometime later.

My observations are:

  1. Update actually is a good one, At least some problems are fixed here, and theme is now really usable,
  2. They need to speed up the Epg , Currently it takes too long to load
  3. Let us hope C-band works well too (That is not asking for too much)
  4. Still no autoscan feature, Even for KU-band
  5. Many channels have improved audio now, and channel change is a bit faster actually, (Even though I would like to see them change faster than this A little greedy here).
  6. I wish to see Kids channels with English language option, Especially cartoon network and Pogo, (Being south-Indian, English seems to be better than Hindi for Kids here)
  7. As for Nick and Disney, I had a problem earlier, that I need to select language as Hindi to get English and vice-verse, That is now working correctly.

So it is still work in progress,But d2h for sure is working on these things, Lets wish them Good Luck and hope they do fly high in the near future.

Yesterday we watch the STB after new software download , it is having good Screen Back ground.

Same time i am expect the Sound Corrections in Tamil channels , But it is not done.

Please correct the problems in eariler. We already discussed this matters in Phone at enough.

I dont know in which problem u have face to increase the volume in tamil channels?

Sony Group Channels and Discovery , Nat GEO , Animal planet channels are having good volume.

If u doubt please check the volume with Tamil kalaignar, Sun , Isai aruvi and other channels with Nat Geo & Sony Channels.

Also please check Fm Rainbow Chennai , the local pagaria receiver is give good audio sound from Insat 4B 93.5*E.

But Videocon relaying the DD Direct FM Radio channels is not good. This is also complaint from our customers.

i am already told my brother is an Distributor of Videocon and Other DTH services.

Our customers are not satisfying to use your products combine with home Theater Systems.They need good volume and clear audios,

Please clear the problems eariler.

But Volume is low, So plesae increase the volume all tamil channels.

I am new customer of Videocon D2H. Before i am using SunDirect DTH.

I am using Videocon D2H , Picture Clarity is Very Good.

But Sound Clarity is having some problems.

In Sun Direct all the Sun Group Channels are come at Stereo & Surround Mode.

This gives Sun Music like at DVD effect. But D2H is Missing.

Also voloume is high. But D2H volume is Low in Sun Channels. but Some Sports and Nat Geo

is Ok.

So if u have any doubt , please check Sun music at Sun Direct and correct this small errors.

Good info , Kumar, but please take care not to post Customer ID, mobile numbers etc, on the internet. I dont think it is a good practice, Some channels do have good audio as you say, But it will depend on what the broadcasters give. I dont think any DTH operator does anything to the signal other than encrypting and encoding it.

I am new user of videocon d2h stb. unfortunately I have deleted default setup. now I can’t setup the box.
When I switch on I can see language setup then I select English and Hindi then I choose East, Kotkata then appear a window that is satellite name, lnb, frequency. at this moment I don’t know what should I input. Please give me instruction step by step to setup the box. It will be very helpful for me. please reply me as early as possible. One more thing is that how can I update my box software?

i got the d2h box on march 25 and the problem is that some of the channels the brightness is very low and reported this to the CC they said to adjust the tv brightness settings but my brightness setting is at the max and still the problem presists , eng visited and said that the problem is with the tv asked me to check with other tv , bit the local cabel the channels are clear can you help me out
my tv is onida – CRT – model -black
my stb is normal stb – ie 1390 rs one (i dont rem model number)

can you pls help me or mail me the solution

I want to buy videocon d2h ‘sattelite DVD’ to enjoy d2h channels as well as other FTA sattelite for c band(insat 4a,2e.Thaicom5,asiasat3s.Intelsat10) and DDD+ ku band.
is sattelite DVD supports sattelite adding,diseqc,22k switch ?

And lastly u r doing great job here.I will be thankful for any comment.

Yes recently I’ve seen many customers are complaining about the issue and I think it’s due to software updates! D2H software updates regularly and that cause some problems! Even some customers complained that STB stuck with updates again and again with update failure.

I was quite recently using sun direct but now it has started giving out some problems and all the channels are not visible due to the problem of power supply in the INSAT 4B transponders.

I checked the footprints of ST 1 at 88 deg E here ( http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?position=88 ) and here ( http://business.singtel.com/coverage/ )

Can you please tell me if it will be available here in BAHRAIN ??

I read about videocon d2h on this website. It praised d2h setop box a lot. I got misled and bought videocon d2h.

Actually, the setop box only looks good, but electronics and software quality of the setop box is very bad. It hangs frequently and we have to physically switch off power to restart it. Also, audio is not loud enough on most channels.

Cartoon network and Pogo are available in Hindi only. Kids in our house are disappointed with videocon.

Shaswatpatel, please highlight these negative features about d2h also, and dont just praise d2h and mislead people.

I TRULY AGREED with anthonsg, DO NOT mislead people. VideconD2H is no good to use. I am using this stupid box and having lots of problems. Pathetic service in Bangalore, those guys are just good to fool the customers. I have to resume my Tata Sky connection finally.
