After a huge lull in activity for about six months, BIG has come up with software updation on 26/04/10 and the following are the positive and negative points felt and expressed by various customers of BIG throughout India. Here I found some positive and negative points after latest software updates and channels addition done on 26th April 2010.
Reliance BIG TV's New Software version
Positive Points:
• First and foremost point that has raised many eye brows is addition of NGC HD Channel, which in turn gave a hint to all of us that BIG is launching HD Service and its PVR shortly (Now it is confirmed that Reliance BIG TV HD DVR service is available from 1st May 2010).
• Fox and Fox Crime channel, which are exclusive for SD until now has arrived on BIG’s platform, besides certain Regional Channels Navvulu, Ushe, Aditya and additional PPV movie Channels of BIG.
• The words “Picture Freeze and STB hang” are so closely associated with BIG that we will never find any review of BIG without these. Ultimately BIG has found a good solution to it and Picture Freeze and STB hang are no longer a problem.
• We were getting blue empty screen on TV at preview channel soon after switching ON in some STB s (2 & 3) and this problem is also solved now.
• Two more Inter Active Services iShopping & iHolidays have been introduced, though these will be activated shortly.
• Option for change of On Screen Language (Hindi / English) has been provided.
• Menu function is opening quite fastly.
• Another Radio Channel has been added, though not useful to many.

Negative Points:
• The foremost negative point is, LOGO hasn’t been changed even in this updation.
• Channel navigation has become a bit slower after updation.
• The Red & White Mini Guide hasn’t been appreciated by many, though it is a bit translucent than earlier Blue coloured one.
• Select Function has been limited to Movie Category alone.
• STB messages are blocking the entire screen, which were much better earlier.
• Reminders are said to be not working properly after updation.
• Interactive Services iNews and iCricket have been removed (Of course, there was no action in iCricket for considerable time, but many will wish to watch the T20 World Cup without BIG’s LOGO).

Auto turning off of STB after 3 to 4 hrs of usage is another problem reported by many, including me, especially with STB 2 & STB 3 and some STB 1 s.
This software upgrade, too much. My stb is getting restarted for every 5 min. Any solution guys. thanks
was having same problem of stb restarting every 5 minutes for 10 days……. now since yesterday everything has gone blank
……would love to hear about a solution
Yesterday STB switch off automatically twice within span of 3 hrs. Right now working fine from morning.
Well current software version is not stable for STB Model 2 as it’s facing some issue and shortly Reliance going to update their Software once again for all boxes as their software causing problems for Model 1 too as channel navigation is bit slow compare then earlier version. So no need to panic! Wait for next few days and every thing will be fine.
I have been facing the restart issue since the upgrade. Called customer care many time and escalated to whatever level I can.
Finally, today I got the response from them saying that I need to pay Rs 800 to replace my STB.
Why would I pay Rs 800 for issue created by them? Everybody please be aware if you also face the same issue. Do not pay and escalate to the highest authority. This is cheating by Reliance.
Well yes never pay money as this is software issue in STB2 which is not updated very well in recent updates and all are waiting for next complete updates which is likely happen in next few days!

Hi, I am using Big TV I liked earlier version of blue theme because because it was faster than the red one. Can I rollback to that version?

Yes Mr.Prabakaran, We love Blue theme compare to current red theme which is relatively slow and not eye catching one too.
Let us see, how things change in the next updation, which is expected, may be, within a week from now
