At times Motorola likes to be first. The Motorola i1 is one example of this. It is the first iDEN push to talk ( PTT ) phone with the Android operating system. It also does not look half bad. Take a closer look at the Motorola i1 here in this quick article.
This is the smartphone for the hard working man or woman. This is also the good looking PTT smartphone that you may have been waiting for. The Motorola i1 is attractive with its black chrome and rubber trim. It is not overly tall for a smartphone and should fit into a pocket with its trim half inch thickness. The corners are rounded to allow it to slip into and out of a pocket without worriment.
The Motorola i1 is setup as a tough smartphone. It has a MILSPEC of 810F. This means it is resistant to rain, vibration, dust and shock. For the contractor or beachgoer, this is the smartphone you want with you on the way. It is a touch screen device, which brings the glass into question. Since this smartphone is not out yet, it is impossible to know how well the glass on the display will stand up to real life abuse.
The camera on the Motorola i1 is a five megapixel photo snapper. That is good enough for high definition, but the i1 is not set up for that. The features of the camera include auto focus, panorama mode, LED flash and a photo editor. The video capability is rated for CIF. This stands for “Common Intermediate Format” and ends up being 288 by 352 pixels of resolution. There is no FM radio.
The Motorola i1 has no manual keyboard, the capacitive touch screen is the basic input device. It is not overly large at 3.1 inches. The low resolution does not help either. It has 320 by 480 pixels to show, which is just above the most basic screens. What the screen does not have in the way of features, Motorola has equalized with applications. There is the Xora workforce app, TeleNavTrack tracking app, and Sprint´s own Mobile Locator.
The performance of the Android operating system is not going to be as good as the majority of Android powered smartphones. Motorola only allows this i1 unit to have version 1.5. Android is up to version 2.2 as of this writing. The 2.2 version is up to four times faster than than older editions of this system. With that said, Android is expanding their app ( application ) base by hundreds per week. There does not seem to be any lag on the Motorola i1 with opening apps or surfing through menus.
The Motorola i1 has a fast ARM processor rated at 600 megahertz. This is in between great and average, as some flagship models today come out with over 1000 megahertz processors. This is not designed to be a flagship model but to be used with prepaid networks. Sprint and Boost Mobile will be the places to get it. Look for a price around $350 dollars before rebates.
