Getting a LG Optimus Black is not what you may think. This is not a “dark side” smartphone, it just has the name. Read on to find out more on the upcoming LG Optimus Black here in this quick article.
This smartphone is a little different from other LG handsets. It has a slim 9.2 millimeter frame that tapers down to six millimeters on the sides. This makes it somewhat easier to hold on to. Some call it the world’s thinnest smartphone profile. The package weighs only 109 grams ( 3.5 ounces ). The total size is 121 millimeters tall by 63.5 millimeters wide by 9.2 millimeters thick. For those not on the metric system, that is 4.76 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide by .36 inch thick. It will have no problem fitting into a pocket or purse. The Black has no manual keyboard.
The screen for the LG Optimus Black is a special make. It has 480 by 800 pixels of resolution, but is a new WVGA NOVA model. It has 700 “nits” of brightness. What is a nit ? It is a predetermined brightness ( Candelas per meter square ) of light. A desktop LCD or laptop will probably have a brightness of a maximum 250 nits. They are hard to see in direct sunlight. The LG Optimus Black has more than twice their brightness. The other features of the display include an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, touch controls, and 16 million colors to choose from. The size is an agreeable four inches. The iPhone is 3.5 inches.
The hardware running the LG Optimus Black is in the upper realms and comes close to classifying this smartphone as a super phone. The processor is a dual core one gigahertz chip. Total internal memory is two gigabytes but RAM storage is not revealed yet. There is thankfully a MicroSD card slot for adding up to 32 gigabytes of external storage.
The LG Optimus Black comes with two cameras. The one on the back is rated for a modest five megapixels and the front is a bit more powerful than other smartphones. It has two megapixels of power. The rear camera has auto focus, LED flash and geo tagging. The geo tagging can be turned off for more privacy and security. The rear camera is strong enough to be able to output high definition video at 30 frames per second. The front camera will do very well as a video camera.
The menus and programs are controlled by an Optimus 2.0 user interface. This allows the user to directly access missed calls, emails, and messages with one touch of a locked handset. There is a “gesture set” of features that include tapping, lifting and shaking. This controls a multitude of operations, including music, calls and the camera. It will have Android 2.2 version which would be called Android 2.2 Froyo but it will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade soon.
You may think that this smartphone will have a small battery, thanks to its savvy profile. Not so. The battery is a 1500 mAh size which should give at least a typical length of talk time for the Black. It is replaceable by the user. The new NOVA screen will help to save on battery life. The LG Black is available for pre-order now in Germany. It is priced at €499 euros. It will hit this month in UK!
