iPhone 4 Vs HTC Evo 4G-Which Phone Should You Get?

by Admin on June 12, 2010

The mobile phone market is the most highly contested tech market out there right now. While the PC market used to have this same competition it has been pretty stagnant the last couple of years. When you are looking for exciting competition and increasing innovation then you should look no further than the mobile phone market. As we know, the iPhone has led this market for the last couple of years. But now they are starting to see competitors everywhere that they turn. One of their biggest competitors are the phones that are running Android based technology. The top phone that is out right now that does this is the HTC Evo 4G. In this article we will take a look at how they stack up against each other and pick out which one you should choose to be your phone to use in the future.

If you look at both of the phones stats, then they are pretty similar. There is not much difference between the two. But as always, it is the little variables in the world of tech that make the difference. It might be the way that a screen renders a picture, or the subtle clarity that the person on the other end can hear the voice of the person that they are speaking to. No matter what it is, it is always the little things that make someone choose one piece of tech over the other. So we will give you a side by side comparison of the main tech that is offered in the two phones. After that you can decide if the little differences of the phone will make you decide one over the other.

We should start with the hardware of the phone first. This is the part of the phone that people are going to have the most exposure to so it only makes sense. Both of these phones have pretty powerful processors. The iPhone has the A4 and the HTC Evo has the Snapdragon. They are both 1GHz and are specialized to make mobile devices run more efficiently. Both the HTC Evo 4G and the iPhone 4 have front and rear facing cameras. This means that you are able to take pictures or videos of yourself while you are holding the phone. This is a great hardware feature for things such as video chat and other innovations. The camera on the HTC Evo 4G is 8 Megapixels while the iPhone 4 is 5 Megapixels. The iPhone 4 is touting a new technology called Retina Display that is supposed to be a better improvement than just putting more Megapixels onto the phone’s camera. It is supposed to make the resolution of the camera look more fluid to the human eye.

The cases of both phones are the biggest things that separate the two. The HTC Evo 4G has a more rugged looking case and a kickstand that is in the back of it. While the iPhone 4 has a smoother case and both sides of the phone have glass on it. The sides of the iPhone 4 are surrounded by metal. Apple claims that this is so the phone can have better reception while you are using it. It seems like it is a good ideal in theory, we will see how it works out in practice. While the iPhone 4 has a prettier look than the HTC Evo 4G does, the Evo is attractive in a more sturdy way. I do not think that people will say that the iPhone is leaps and bounds better than the Evo in the looks of the hardware.

The screens of the devices are very different. The two companies have taken a very different view on what is going to make a better experience when it comes to the screens of these phones. The HTC Evo 4G decided that they were going to give consumers more screen space. The screen size of their phone comes in at 4.3 inches. The iPhone 4 decided that they would keep their screen size smaller but put in more pixels and make the look of the picture look better. People have wanted bigger screen sizes to view the media on these smaller devices for awhile now but Apple might be able to defray this criticism by how good the picture looks on the phone.

The iPhone comes with their own specialized phone jack while the HTC Evo 4G comes with the ability to plug an USB device into the phone. I would have to say that HTC Evo is the winner here. It is always nice to have a standard device to be able to plug into the phone. This allows you to easy transfer items on and off the phone without having to look for a special cord. If you lose the Apple cord then you most certainly know that you are going to pay a lot more to replace it than you would by buying a replacement USB cord.

When it comes to the storage of the two phones, it is hard to tell a winner. While the iPhone has up to 32GB depending on which version of the phone you buy, you cannot replace the storage. With the Android, it only comes with 1GB of storage by default but you are able to replace this storage anytime that you like. You can even purchase third party storage cards and use them instead. This is the same thing with the battery as well. The Evo has a problem here because the phone consumes battery life very quickly. But if you would like, you can replace the battery on your phone with a better third party alternative. With the iPhone, it has better battery life but you cannot replace the battery whenever you want to. If something ever goes wrong with the battery, you have to ship the phone out and get a new one.

The software on the phone is the main selling point of both of the phones. And again, the two phones are vastly different when it comes to the software that runs the phone. The iPhone runs the iOS 4 operating system and it is one of the best out. The integration with the phone is very smooth and you are able to get the normal Apple quality that you have come to expect, which is pretty high. Apple has also introduced multi-tasking to the operating system, so this is also a big plus. This allows you to run more than one third party application at a time. But it is not considered true multi-tasking because you are only able to run 7 apps at any one time. The software for the HTC Evo 4G is based on the Android operating system. HTC has put a custom skin on the phone called sense but it is still basically the same operating system. The Android offers full multi-tasking and while it may not be as pretty as the iOS 4 from iPhone, it offers a little bit more functionality. Some of the extra functionality includes that fact that you can use tethering on the phone. Tethering is allowing other devices to use the internet that comes from the phone. It is this and other neat little tricks that the iPhone cannot do that makes it special.

So after this analysis, you can see that choosing either phone can be hard proposition. Depending on the different variables that you are looking for, you can go with either one. If you are a person that creates media, you might want to think about the iPhone since it also has the ability to record in a HD format. You can also edit the HD video that you record right on the phone. But if you are a person that mostly consumes media then you might want to go with the HTC Evo 4G. It has a bigger screen and it has the ability to plug the phone into your TV. This allows you to have HDMI video quality going to your television from your phone.

You need to get your facts straight before you publish something like this. The evo has an 8 mp camera not 4. It also is capable of BDAY recording & connecting to a tv. Among many other things. If I were you I would do more research & correct what you wrote.

You must fix some other things as well. The screen is 4.3 not 4.5 and the EVO comes with 8Gb card in it!

you serious? front facing camera for evo is 1.3 megapixels. the front facing camera for iphone 4 is VGA. GARBAGE lmao. iphone4 has no flash, no customization no nothing it only has APPS.. evo has apps+customization+its a free open source platform which you can do anything your mind can think of.. can your iphone 4 do that? no do i look like a movie director that i need a video editor? why would i edit my movies on a phone luls.. battery life? i can buy extra batterys and replace anytime.. and buy as much sdcards as i want… so really the HTC EVO has unlimited memory space, iphone 4 has its bounderies and limitations while HTC EVO 4G has no limitations it cannot be stopped its a android. Evo hands down is the better smartphone.. iphones arnt even smartphones.. they are idiot proof phones for noobs so easy a caveman can use it.

I don’t understand why Apple refuses to provide for a replaceable battery and a hot swap-able SD card. These are huge advantages that other phones have on the iPhone. Also, why not allow the users to customize their home screen? The Macintosh computers are very customizable, so why is the iPhone a one-size-fits-all phone?

As a final point Sprint puts out a decent cell phone to bring benefit of their outstanding network which is only acquiring far better. I’m wondering regardless of whether an additional player inside the marketplace will gobble them up to get their towers since sprint continues to be struggling financially recently.
