The iPhone 4G model has had a lively history behind it, including a popular bout with the police. The latest 4G was “outed” early, which is a huge “no-no” if you are from Apple. Take a look at some juicy details here.
First off, what in the world does “4G” stand for anyway ? Literally, it means “Fourth Generation”. In bland, boring tech-speak it means that a phone or device can access and use WiMax networks. WiMax is like Wi-Fi on steroids. It is much faster which makes uploads, downloads, and surfing the web take less time. It is not available everywhere, but is available in many places. The kicker is that the term “4G” may or may not mean that the newest Apple iPhone “4G” will be able to use WiMaX. That is still to be seen.

The story behind the impromptu “outing” of the iPhone 4G is one that you could probably make a movie out of. An engineer working for Apple carries the prototype, disguised as a 3G model, into a beer bar. His name is Gray Powell and he is 27 years old. He may or may not have gotten drunk, that part is not known. What is known is that he inadvertently leaves the prototype iPhone on the seat he is sitting. He then leaves the bar, and the secret iPhone is found, ends up in the hands of a famous web site, and is published across the world. The famous web site is gizmodo, who reportedly paid $5000 dollars for the prototype iPhone 4G.
The story does not end there. Apple calls and asks for their property back and Gizmodo gives it to them. The police then confiscate the gadgets and computers of Jason Chen, a blogger for the site gizmodo. Chen says they broke into his house, but the judge who authorized the warrant says ChenĀ“s belongings “may have been used” to commit a felony.
If you know about the seriousness that Apple has for their products, you will understand that Gray Powell is in a world of trouble. Apple is known for grinding their enemies into the ground also, so keep a look out for the site Gizmodo and Mister Chen.
The details on the newest Apple are that it has two cameras, one facing forward, presumably for conference videos. The system for the 4G was already jailbroken about a week or more ago. Those iPhones just do not stay under the wraps very long. Otherwise, it looks like a 3GS model for the most part. The exterior is not changed in a big way. It would be surprising to not see an AMOLED screen on the 4G but no one has gotten that far with it, since Apple bricked the “outed” prototype soon after it was lost.
In a way you can say the iPhone 4G has been released, just not “authorized”. You can bet next year there will be fear in the heart of every Apple worker who takes their next newer version home with them. Good luck to Gray Powell!

I think Gray lost to iphone on purpose as a marketing gag for apple. I mean who is so stupid to go in a beer bar with an iphone prototype and lose it. Especially he didn’t get fired yet.
