You probably remember images and information leaking long before the official launch of the iPhone 4. Gizmodo had the upper-hand on news for the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4G as it was called at the time. The rumor was that Gizmodo had purchased the iPhone 4 from an Apple employee – or at least someone who had gotten a hold of one – for some large sum of money. It seems as though the whole incident isn’t being taken too lightly by authorities in Silicon Valley as a special high-tech task force raided the home of Jason Chen – the Gizmodo blogger who had wrote about the iPhone 4 – on April 23rd.
Chen’s attorneys were quick to question why the warrent was approved in the first place, pointing out the federal shield laws that protect and limit the search of records and information held by the media(Chen). The result: Authorities will act as if the raid had never happened and any information gathered will not be considered evidence, at this point.
“In essence we’re going back the beginning as if no warrant was issued,” said Thomas Nolan, Chen’s representative. As the dust settles, the case remains open as Silicon Valley Authorities are still interested in who sold Gizmodo the iPhone 4.
