iPad Tips for Dummies

by Admin on July 7, 2010

The iPad isn’t a very complicated piece of hardware, and for what it’s worth, anyone can use it for the basics of what it does. If you’ve already fallen in love with the iPhone OS, then you’ll love the iPad too, but there’s a slim chance that you might encounter a bit of a learning curve. Now, the iPad does have a fairly simple design and it doesn’t have incredibly difficult features either. But then, like with everything else in this technology-driven world of ours, there are still those little quirks that you just can’t figure out.

Of course, you say, that’s the purpose of a user guide. But, we all know that they aren’t all inclusive. By some stroke of genius, people assume that everyone will “just know” how to do certain things and decide to leave out some bits and pieces of valuable info here and there.

If you’re an iPhone user, you should find the iPad relatively simple to navigate since it shares the same OS. In case you don’t have iPhone, or you’d just rather not waste your valuable time trying to figure out the unwritten tricks of the iPad, here are a few essentials to help you out.

How Do a Soft Reset

Many people overlook the simple reset feature that is built into the iPad. Just as with anything else that is loaded with the iPhone OS, when it seems to stop working properly, you hold the home and power buttons for a few seconds; this forces the system to restart. In the case you just want to quit an application that refuses to close, just hold the home button.

Muting the Sound

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to immediately mute your iPad, don’t fret. Just press and hold the volume button, and within two seconds, the sound will be on mute. Of course, you could always just turn down the volume ahead of time.

Taking Screenshots

You, like most people, probably have no problems with taking a screenshot while on your computer. But, has it ever dawned on you that the iPad boasts this feature, too? The iPhone OS maintains the capability to take a screenshot of anything that you’re looking at, but with the iPad, a lot of people just don’t realize that it’s still possible. To take a screenshot, you simply push the power and home buttons at the same time. You only need to hold them for a second, and in an instant, the photo is stored in your library.

Easy Auto Scroll

Have you ever been skimming the stories on a blog, and only upon reaching the end do you decide that you finally want to stop and read one? Well, you could always just run your finger across the screen a few times, although, it gets old rather fast. Instead, take a tip, and just hit the title bar. In an instant, you’ll be right back to the top of the page, and you can use this trick over and over again. No more cleaning fingerprints off the screen of your iPad thanks to the auto scroll.
While these are some of the most basic tips for the iPad, they are also some of the most unnoticed. Hopefully, you’ll have more ease of use with your iPad, and remember to stay tuned for more useful iPad tips and tricks.
