The newest Apple iPhone 4G and the HTC Evo 4G may be running head to head on different networks when they both get online with their respective carriers. What will be the result of this obvious clamor for top position ? Take a short look at what may be a match up when the iPhone ( called “4G” ) gets here.
The overall “people power” of Apple may be something to deal with from a marketing standpoint, but we are only going to talk about physical abilities here. HTC is to be considered a “marketing arm” of the Apple competition; Google and their Android operating system. HTC is behind the Evo 4G and the first point of contention will of course be the operating systems of these two smartphones. Which one would you want ?
The iPhone 4G is more than likely going to be using an operating system something close to the iPad, which is nice if you like the same old thing. The HTC Evo 4G is using an operating system that can be updated automatically without you doing anything. The Android system on the Evo is so far going to be version 2.1 which supports the popular “pinch and zoom” effect called multi touch. While the Evo 4G is probably going to be out in the first part of June, a new update to Android may already be on the Evo by that time. Android programmers are working feverishly to improve their semi-open source creation. They have just over 50,000 apps ( applications ) as of this writing. The iPhone has around 90,000 to 130,000 apps. But the Android apps have the characteristic of being cheaper most of the time. That will be the killer for most businesses, since most readers looking at a smartphone will have less money than they use to.
The second thing will be performance. The Evo 4G is probably going to be the winner in this category. It has already been announced that the Evo runs a fast 1000 megahertz Snapdragon processor. The iPhone processor speed is still a secret, despite an iPhone 4g model being lost this past month and leaked online. If history is any indicator, the iPhone will be slower than the Evo. Available memory will be a contentious point also. Iphones do not have an external memory card slot. The new one probably will not have one either. The Evo has a slot for those huge 32 gigabyte memory cards that you can remove. Android is also working on making their apps have the feature of being loaded onto those huge cards, which means you can load up on more apps than you ever could with an iPhone. Most people are not “app hogs” so this may be a moot point, but if talking about pure performance and memory, the Evo will probably be the winner.

The Evo has two cameras. It is not known if the iPhone will have two or not. The screen on the Evo will be using the older LCD technology. It is possible that Apple will use AMOLED technology for their iPhone. This is brighter and uses less power. This would be a huge feature for the famously battery-eating iPhone. The battery will likely not be able to be removed from the iPhone. It is removable on the Evo. The Evo comes with a “kickstand” to prop it up while viewing videos. It is unlikely the iPhone will have this feature. The Evo has an HDMI port to connect it to a monitor or television for videos. Again, it is highly unlikely the iPhone will have such a feature.
Neither smartphone is here yet so comparisons may be for naught. But HTC leaked their Evo 4G to the world already in preparation for a June release, the same month as the iPhone will probably be released.
May the best smartphone win. Everyone’s looking forward to June for launch of the iPhone 4G and we’ve got a more specific date, June 7 as Apple has announced when they will be holding their annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which might be the venue were they will unveil their latest iPhone offering. While HTC EVO 4G will also likely to come on June 6th.

EVO for sure. As impressed with Android as I already am, the EVO looks to be a powerhouse. The only possible drawback that I can think of is the carrier, but that has yet to be seen.
Lets see here, the At&t 3G network is 1/4 of Sprints 3G, At&t was recently rated last in call quality and customer service, BEHIND TMO! At years end Sprints 4G footprint will be larger than At&t 3G network. Yet, you say Sprints network is a drawback?!
HTC evo 4g all the way
I am looking at getting the Sprint Evo 4G!!! I’m glad I’m already with Sprint & cant wait for this one! The Iphone 4G will look pretty and will work for the masses, while the Evo & Android will work perfect for me & others who like to be a lil bit different!
Yes you are right and now we are closing to get EVO phones as reports suggesting that it’s coming in first week on June.
i think the evo 4g will be the daddy of android phones this year. But 1 thing to consider is whats up with this 1.3gigs? I have heard that its suspose to be under the hood of windows phone 7?
I want to start off by saying a) that I am not at all an Apple Fanboi; I’m a PC-guy till the day I die…and b) that I DEEPLY wanted this phone. DEEPLY. With all that is within me. It’s so sexy, so awesome, so capable! I was willing to trade in my iPhone 3GS, the only Apple device I’ve ever owned – and the single greatest piece of technology that I’ve ever owned for that matter – for the HTC Evo. I am also still in contract with AT&T and so I would have terminated early and paid the fine just to switch to Sprint so I could have this phone. I absolutely love my iPhone – it’s familiar to me, easy to operate, and fun. But I hate AT&T. I want to see Flash display in the Safari browser. I want to be able to customize my iPhone background. Push notification constantly fails. Dropped calls. I despise the bottleneck of Apple & iTunes. I hate the lack of compatibility it has sometimes with my PC.
But after reading all of the reviews, I am sorry to say that I will not be getting this beautifully gorgeous phone. And here’s why: Horrible battery life. MicroSD card failures. Can’t talk and surf at the same time on Sprint (only on 4G, not on 3G). Gotta pay an extra $10 for something that I might not even use because it will kill the battery and might be spotty connectivity at best. Can’t install apps to the MicroSD card. A camera lens that the phone actually sits on, resulting potentially in a scratched-up lens.
I’m super bummed. I mean, it’s only a phone, right? But still: Why didn’t both HTC and Apple really think of these things? Why not put absolutely everything in the phone that people will need, and MAKE IT RIGHT, so there are no regrets on any side? Sprint: Why make a 4G network and then charge a surplus on it? What’s with not providing protection for the camera lens so that I can actually ditch an extra device and use the camera on this phone? Apple: lose the ego and incorporate Flash. AT&T: Fix your network so calls don’t drop.
As a followup, I certainly will not be upgrading my iPhone 3GS now that I see that the iPhone 4G screen is smaller…what a stupid move by Apple. When will people get it right???
I stopped by the Sprint store this morning to checkout the EVO 4G. It’s nice, and technically it should be faster than my 3GS, but download speed aside everything feels snappier on my 3GS.
I just can’t get over how the screen seems to lag behind by about half a second when scrolling, or zooming in on things. I would go as far as saying that even my original iPhone had much smoother interaction with the touchscreen than the EVO 4G.
It’s obvious that the Apple OS is much more efficient and snappier than Android, even when running on a slower CPU.
Perhaps Android 2.2 will fix this, but for now it feels like a slug compared to my 3GS.
I have an Evo in the mail and am quite excited. I have never really cared for Apple and it’s very closed software policies. I did get the opportunity to check out an Evo at the store and all I can say is I’m very impressed. I experienced none of the lag you mentioned. Everything was smooth as can be, and that large screen is a must have. The iPhone my have a higher res screen, but when it gets this high, I simply don’t care. I’ll take the larger screen, thank you very much.
I have used the android OS and the iPhone OS (albeit, a lot less) and I have been very impressed with android overall. The features of the SenseUI can only add to it, I imagine.
In an attempt to remain objective, I must say the Evo is looking like a significantly better choice in almost every area.
Iphone 4, NOT 4g… That phone is no better than the 3GS in a slightly different shape.
I have always been an apple fan, but with the introduction of the HTC EVO 4G, I can only say WOW! I have own the phone since June 4th and let me tell you; this is by far the best phone in the market.
the htc evo is better….the 4g iphone has the same menu as the old iphones….
Hi guys,
can any one know what is the cost iphone 4g & HTC EVO 4g in india?
Which phone is good?
Hello Srinath,
Well none of phones are launched in India yet. Both phones launched in USA only while iPhone 4 also available in France, Germany, Japan and the UK. In India iPhone 4 will likely to launch in September 2010 with Vodafone and Bharti Airtel.
oh…thankx Admin…
can u tell me which phone is best or good?
For me I would go with Android Phone HTC EVO 4G thanks to Android 2.1 OS and 4G Connectivity but none of phone are useful in India until we have 3G services!
