With the launch of Google Buzz, globe has been buzzing around with the powerful social networking application from Google. There are clearly more reasons for Facebook and Twitter to worry upon when their social capabilities are compared with the robust capabilities of Google Buzz.
Let us take a closer look and understand as to how Google Buzz is different from Facebook and Twitter and its future implications:
- Google Buzz allows a user to post text in a free text area without limitations of 140 or so characters as done by Twitter.
- Both Twitter and Facebook are standalone applications which promise users social capabilities. However, Google Buzz not only offers social capabilities but also provides a broader horizon of services – emailing, blogging, sharing albums through Picasa and other features.
- Google Buzz allows users to “Search Buzz” about something they are interested in and they would see huge list of posts along with user pictures who have posted a given set of searched keywords. So if you searched for “Obama’s Birthday” in Google Buzz you can get to view list of posts which have “Obama’s Birthday” mentioned. This has widened the social networking capabilities across the web and globe on the go. For news channels and other agencies Google Buzz is the next big thing to capture people’s voice.
- Apart from simple text feeds, Google Buzz can incorporate rich media including hyperlinks and videos in the posts. Whereas Twitter and Facebook provide standalone text messages that are used against comments and posts.
- Google Buzz does not require any special sign up in case a user has a pre-existing Gmail account. Users can access the “Buzz” link below Chat link and get set going on the Google Buzz.
- It allows people to “Mute” their posts or hide them in case they do not wish to share it with their friends or social circle. A focus on invasion of privacy like this has been one of the USP’s (Unique Selling Proposition) of Google.
- Google Buzz is a much lighter application when compared to an application heavy environment of Facebook. So if users are on unreliable dial-up network, shaky connections or GPRS connections, they can also get to enjoy all features of Google Buzz without any hassles whatsoever.
Facebook and Twitter should lead to innovative lines if they want to sustain their meaty social market share across the globe. The Integrated and unified Google Buzz would otherwise eat up their customers in a matter of few months to a year. Ironically, it’s the online users who are getting benefitted from the best in class applications, API’s and their implementations in the social arena.
With the passage of time, users should expect more applications and features to be implemented on Google Buzz platform. Google Buzz has been able to deliver a buzzing application that has already send waves across the globe in a shorter span of time. Twitter and tweets were the words of 2009. Google Buzz is all set to change the rules of the game in 2010.
