With a device like the iPad, you have to be very careful in how you handle it. You have to make sure that you are gentle when you use it. We would like to think that we always take care of our devices when we get them but let’s face it, the longer that we have a device the more we tend to treat it less special. But with the iPad and the way that it depends on the front interface to move around the actual system, you have to be especially careful. A scratch on the front of the device may be like losing a button on an MP3 player. You might not be able to navigate on the device anymore. So we will list several ways that you can protect your iPad from both you and the elements that you may deal with when you take it outside.
The number one way that you can protect your iPad when you use it is to just be aware of your surroundings. Most of the time, we tend to get callous with some of the devices that we use and just leave them anywhere. We shouldn’t do that with the iPad. Treat it the same as you would your laptop. When you have your laptop, you do not just sit it anywhere. You make sure that it is put up somewhere so that it will not get damage. But you do not do the same with your iPhone and iPod. Do not treat your iPad the same way you would your iPhone. Treat it just like your laptop.
Another way that you can make sure that your iPad stays protected is to buy some sort of case to carry it around in. You might be tempted to just place it in a bag with your other devices such as your laptop. That should not be the case. The iPad’s front is important and you must keep it from being scratched so you have to get it its own special case. Make sure that the case has special lining in the inside of it that will not scratch the device if it is rubbed against it. All cases are not built the same so you might want to make sure that you spend some money on the case and not pick the cheapest one.
And the last way that you can keep your iPad from being damaged is to not take the device out in bad weather. With your iPhone you may be able to get away with it but with the iPad it is not such a good idea. You should treat the device the same as you would a laptop. If it was raining out then you would not take your laptop outside. You should not do the same with the iPad as well.
As we see, the best thing that you can do with the iPad is to use common sense. If you are smart about taking care of your device then you will not have to worry.

Hams and others know the value of zip lock bags when it comes to out door use of valuable electronics while raining or on the water.
The iPad fits perfectly with room to spare in a one gallon zip lock freezer bag. You can also protect the iPad this way for use in the kitchen or in the garage.
Just clean your hands when through, remove from bag, and throw the soiled zip lock bag away.
The touch screen of the iPad works perfectly inside the zip lock bag too.
TIP 2:
Buy a case of micro fiber cloths to keep the iPad clean, $20 for 36 on Amazon.com
Thanks Vic for kind of inputs here.
