If you are a heavy computer user, then there is a good chance that you keep track of all of the hard drive space that you use. But for the average person, a lot of them do not even know how to check, how much space is left on their hard drive. They will continue to download new applications, movies and music, until their hard drive fills up. Then they will go to a shop, to get their computer repaired, only to be told that this was a simple problem to clear up. But not before the shop charges them at least a hundred dollars for the advice. But a person actively downloading from the internet, is not the only thing that will fill up your hard drive. Files that you create, both temporary and normal, will start to fill up the hard drive as well. In this article, we will show you how to get rid of all types of useless files that may be filling up your hard drive space. We will also show you how to set the command so that you can compress some of the files that you do not use as often.
The easiest way to extra gain hard drive space is to go around to the folders that you use on a regular basis and delete anything that might not be of value to you. If you have not changed the area of where the file will download, the usual default space in Windows 7 is in the Downloads folder. You can find this under the My Documents folder. If you have downloading anything off of the internet, then most likely it will be in here. You may be surprised at how much space some of these downloads may take. Look through the folder and see if there is anything that you do not want anymore. Once you have all of the files that you do not want, right click on it, and delete them. This will cause the files to go to the Recycle bin. Once they are in there, right click on the Recycle Bin folder and delete them forever.
Once you have gone in the active folders that you use and emptied all of the files, now it is time to empty the files in the folders that you may not be able to see. There are a lot of files that get saved in the temporary areas of the computer. The easiest way that you can get rid of these files is to go into Disk Cleanup, and get rid of them through that utility. You can find this by hitting start, accessories, system tools, and then clicking on Disk Cleanup. Once you hit it, it will start to calculate the files that you have used and tell you what you can safely get rid of. It will also ask you if you want to compress rarely used files. If you hit yes, this will give you even more space on the hard drive. once it has gone through the complete cycle, you will see a large increase in your hard drive space. Remember that this process can take a long time, especially if you have a large hard drive.
These are the best ways that you can get more space on your hard drive. Do these activities every few months and your hard drive will never fill up by surprise again
