by Admin on February 25, 2010

When it comes to your website, additional care and attention should be taken on every single detail to enable you to make sure that it delivers optimum performance. Here are some guidelines that you should follow to ensure that your website does well.

Splash pages are the beginning pages of a website that you will sometimes encounter. They are mainly for aesthetic purposes in most cases, and will have a picture and a link to click on to enter the site itself. In reality, they are just pages without any really purpose. It is best to avoid implementing splash pages wherever possible, as they are likely to put of any potential visitors. Allow your visitor to gain a full view of your website without any unnecessary pages.

Don’t use banner ads. If you do then you are taking up valuable space that you could be selling to other advertisers. You could use affiliate links on different content, this way you are giving your visitors the opportunity to purchase something that may be of interest to them, but not forcing them into it.

Easy navigation is vital for a website to be successful. You should offer a straight to the point, easy to navigate menu that even beginner users will be able to decipher.

If your visitors feel that navigation on your website is complicated then they are unlikely to return in the future.

Once a visitor is absorbed in the content of your website, you are going to want to make sure that they are able to figure out where on the website they are. This way they will be able to refer to your navigation menu in order to move through the different pages. Don’t confuse your visitors as this will put them off and they won’t come back.

If a visitor plans on staying on your website for a long time, browsing through all of your content, then it is a good idea to make sure that they are not distracted and annoyed by looping audio on your website. If you absolutely have to put audio on your site then you should make sure that you allow the visitor some control over it. Simply put a volume control in place, this will be more than enough.
