Do you want power and looks ? Get a look at the LG Optimus 2X, also known as the LG P990. This is a very close resemblance to the iPhone, but with none of the inner workings. It is the first smartphone in the world to be sold with a dual core processor. It is time to celebrate !
The screen for the LG Optimus 2X is a large one. It is sized at four inches. That is the same size as the Samsung Nexus S. It also happens to have the same resolution; 480 by 800 pixels. It has all the features that you would expect from a top smartphone display. It has an accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope and touch sensitive controls. It is created out of LCD, not AMOLED. This eats up the battery faster, but Samsung seems to have the market cornered for AMOLED. There is no manual keyboard for the 2X so all typing is done on the display using the virtual keyboard.
LG has given the Optimus 2X a nice camera. It weighs in at eight megapixels. It has auto focus and LED flash. There is a second camera on the front rated for 1.3 megapixels. The primary camera can record high definition video at 1080p for super clear clips. An HDMI connector is included to output video to a monitor or television.
The dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 “system on a chip” is found in the LG Optimus 2X and runs at a clock speed of one gigahertz. This is a very powerful chip that qualifies the handset for “super phone” status. This same chip is used in some tablets, like the MSI and the Foxconn. It is accompanied by a smallish eight gigabytes of internal memory that can be expanded with the use of a MicroSD card by another 32 gigabytes.
Running the menus and programs for the LG Optimus 2X is the android mobile operating system. This is a free ( no cost ) software that has become very popular in the United States. It is created by Google. It is in an older version, 2.2, on this smartphone. It is supposed to be updated to Android 2.3 GingerBread, but no time-frame is given for completion. Android has over 190,000 apps ( applications ) available for download in the android marketplace. For comparison, Apple iTunes has over 250,000 apps.
LG gave the 2X a large battery ( 1500 mAh ) that should give at least six hours of talk time under normal use. It is headed to Korea first and then to the rest of the world later. No prices have been announced.
