SEO marketing isn’t a new concept by any means, but many Internet marketers – even very successful ones – tend to leave it out of their business, and many have come to regret this. Often these marketers have a specialization in paid traffic sources such as pay per click with Google Adwords or, more recently, serving pop ups with pay per view companies like Trafficvance. This is all well and good, but as many marketers have realized, once one of these traffic sources “dries up” you’ll be back to square one.
Any Wall Street investor worth his weight in salt will repeat the same mantra: diversify your assets. There’s a reason for that – it’s good advice. So why don’t Internet marketers, whose business assets aren’t stocks or mutual funds (for the most part, anyway) take this lesson to heart? The most successful Internet marketers know that it’s a dangerous game to play when you trust a single traffic source to be your main engine of revenue generation. So what do they do about it? They diversify. Instead of just focusing on Adwords or media buys or any other method of paid traffic, they know the value in dedicating a decent amount of their “online portfolio” to domain development for the purpose of garnering organic traffic (traffic that comes from search engines).
The best part of SEO marketing is that it has a low barrier to entry – but a very high learning curve. This means that while anyone can go and get a domain, it’s difficult to properly optimize the page and learn the myriad SEO techniques necessary to get it ranking high in the search engine results pages, and therefore generating traffic. This means that those dedicated enough to learn SEO marketing or outsource optimization services to a competent SEO consultant will have a significant edge over their competition.
Search marketing services are by no means difficult to acquire, but it can be difficult finding an SEO consultant that is actually skilled at SEO marketing and domain development – one must take proper care when outsourcing and make sure that they’re not only getting what they’ve paid for, but that the services are in line with their long term plans. Remember, SEO requires a certain amount of maintenance – it isn’t just as simple as sending a ton of links to your site in the first week and never again. This is a common mistake of newcomers to SEO. A competent SEO consultant will be able to provide you with an excellent long term plan for your domains and explain why each step is being taken.
SEO marketing is an excellent method to learn and should be a part of any great Internet marketer’s business plan, whether you’re new to the exciting world of online marketing or a skilled veteran.
