Dell’s Android Mobile – Dell Mini

by Admin on April 24, 2010

Dell wants a piece of that smartphone action and has produced an Android powered device that is not too shabby. They called it the “Dell Mini”. There are a few different versions of it. Read on to find out more about this Dell smartphone.

The phone definitely has a unique look to it. The top of the smartphone has unused space that could have had the touch screen there. Getting past the looks, we find that the “Dell Mini” has Wi-Fi depending on where you live. If you live in China, it does not come with Wi-Fi. If you live in the Brazil it will have it.

The display is three and half inches in size when measured diagonally. It is manufactured with the older LCD technology. The resolution is a bit weak compared with other smartphones and is rated at 360 by 640 pixels. It has the automatic adjusting of the aspect of the screen by using an accelerometer. Flip the Dell Mini 3iX on its side and the view will take on a horizontal view. Multitouch is supported with this device and that means you can “pinch and zoom” to get a closer look at things like web pages.

The Dell Mini uses quad band GSM and tri band HSDPA networks to get the calls through. This again, will be adjusted depending on where it is bought. All the normal data connections are included except for a infrared connector and a MicroUSB cable connector. The Wi-Fi modes are the slower “B” and “G” versions. If you look at the side of the smartphone you will find a slot for the MicroSD card. It handles one of those monstrous 32 gigabyte sizes, so you should not have the problem of running out of room. Dell is nice enough to include a two gigabyte card for free. Internal memory is rated at 256 megabytes.

How is the camera on the Dell Mini ? Glad you asked. The quick answer is; average. It takes pictures at the 3.2 megapixel level. It has flash, which can be rare for many smartphones. It has geotagging, autofocus and video to round out all the camera features. Audio entertainment is sparse with the Mini. There is no FM radio but a music player is included.

If you like black, you will like the colors of most smartphones, including the Dell Mini. You get the choice of Burgundy if black is not your style. The battery is nearly a joke and is only 1000 mAh in size. If you live in China, the non-3G variety of this smartphone will be the model you will be getting. It is expensive, even prohibitively so. Get ready to fork out around $300 dollars for this unit.
