by Admin on April 3, 2010

Affiliate marketing is the most popular business online. All over the world, thousands of people are making handsome income from affiliate marketing. There are hundreds of affiliate programs available on the internet. It becomes very difficult for a newbie affiliate marketer to select the correct affiliate program as each program has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. There may be some programs which are run by dishonest merchants, who do not pay their affiliates in time or may not pay them at all. So, one has to be very careful before selecting an affiliate program.

Choosing Your Affiliate Program

The following are some points which would help you to select the correct affiliate program:

  1. As a newbie affiliate marketer, you should always start with a product in which you are personally interested. The product should be of good quality and should be capable of solving people’s problems. The best thing is to buy and use the product yourself. This would help you to promote the product better as you know about the benefits of using the same.
  2. The affiliate program selected should match your business plan. For example, if you run a health related website, you must promote products which are related to your niche. If you promote unrelated products like motor insurance or a casino program on your site, you may not find any customers.
  3. Always select niches which are growing and have a high demand. The product selected should be popular but the cost should not be too high.
  4. The product selected should have a high commission rate. The rate should be between 25% to 70%. The best thing is to go for a 2-tier affiliate program. Such programs pay you for the sales generated directly by you as well as for the sales generated by other affiliates recruited by you.
  5. Look at the terms of payment. Some programs pay on a weekly or monthly basis whereas others pay upon reaching a certain payout level. Payment can be made through Paypal, check, bank transfer etc. Look at the payment history of the program.
  6. Always join a program which has tracking cookies. Sometimes the visitors do not buy anything on their first visit to a merchant website, but may buy on their subsequent visits. If the program uses tracking cookies, the sales would be linked to you and you would receive the commission for that sales.
