Blackberry Torch 9800 Releasing On August 12-First Balckberry To Run OS 6

by Admin on August 9, 2010

Something new is brewing over at Research In Motion. They are creating a new model named the Blackberry Torch 9800. Blackberry Torch release date is set for August 12. So it means that within merely four days from now we will have it in our hands. It has a vertical slider format and is probably going to have a new marketing name. Take a look at how this new smartphone may look here in this short article.

Not only is this a brand new format, but he Blackberry 9800 also sports a new operating system. The OS 6 operating system is going to be installed on this slider. This is a refined and modern system that is pure Blackberry. The smartphone itself is revealed in many photos online but the exact measurements are not known. It is close to the same size as the Bold. The manual keyboard is a four row and is not flat, so typing will not be difficult for all but the fattest fingers.

The screen on the Blackberry 9800 is 3.2 inches and was created to be of average quality. The resolution is predicted to be 360 by 480 pixels. That is nothing to write home about, but is a slice above most average displays. It is touch sensitive and uses an optical trackpad underneath for even more navigation. Having a 3.2 inch screen is not going to be easy to type on, even in landscape mode. For this reason, the manual keyboard should fit right in with the design. It is laid out in four rows in the familiar QWERTY style. The numbers to dial with are also laid out over the left side of the keyboard.

On the inside of the Blackberry 9800 is the new OS 6 operating system. It is modern-looking and comes with one of the best mobile web browsers in the world. The WebKit browser is fast and used in other competitor“s models, including most Android smartphones. The OS 6 system allows the user to arrange the homescreen with nearly any combination imaginable. Since the 9800 is aimed at business users, productivity and social connectivity will be at the forefront. The menus are laid out to be fluid and visual. At least two social networks will be included, which are Twitter and Facebook.

What can the Blackberrry 9800 connect to ? One is Wi-Fi. This smartphone can handle Wi-Fi up to the “G” mode. It does not yet support Wi-Fi in the faster “N” mode. It also does not have WiMaX. It can connect to EDGE and GPRS networks for data transfer. Bluetooth and Micro USB round out the digital transfer of information. For voice communication, the 9800 will have quad band GMS and dual band HSDPA networks. If the battery is going to be as small as some other Blackberry models, count on getting a spare. This one is slated to be just 1050 mAh.

It looks like this Blackberry 9800 will be arriving in basic black. The outer edges have a metallic blue trim that is winsome, moreso than some models of the past. This new model may end up with the marketing name of “Torch”. This seems to be the case online as the interest in the unit is heating up pronto. It will probably be released in the next month. This and other new things, such as a tablet, may pop up before the end of the year. No price on the Blackberry 9800 is yet available. Look for this to be marketed worldwide, including Europe and Japan markets. The Torch 9800 will debut August 12 on AT&T for $200 with a two-year contract.

A Blackberry slider with the new Version will be awesome. Only the disply resolution is a little down for me. But otherwise it looks like a good smartphone to buy.

I am so sick of arguing with people about iPhones. The name should be changed to iFun because thats really all they are made for. They can barely handle any of the tasks that a “phone” should so why have the word “phone” in the name. With that said, this new Blackberry is a phones phone. No nonsense. Its not gonna win any fashion awards at the 2010 Phony awards. It wont be breakout phone of the year. It probably wont ever outsell droid or iPhone. Your kids and their friends wont be talking about how excited they are to get the new Torch. But when it comes to making and receiving PHONE calls, emailing, texting, surfing the web, updating status’s or blogs, viewing documents, there is no better phone out there then this one.

The main thing that I knew I would love is the physical keyboard combined with touchscreen. I really dont think physical keyboards will ever be phased out because they are faster and more accurate than any touchscreen could ever be. And I think RIM is betting on that fact with this phone cause there is not one phone on the market that combines a big screen with a kick a** keyboard. I had a Bold 9000 and upgraded to this phone (via amazon wireless for only 99 bucks!) and besides the speakers not being as loud, this phone is better in every way then an already amazing phone in the Bold 9000. Contrary to what all the reviews around the web are saying, the screen is amazing. Who would want to watch HD movies on their phone anyway? Thats dumb. I have a tv and/or a laptop for that. Not to mention on 3G networks you cant stream any higher resolution than this phone can view anyway.

I really do love the screen and how responsive it is. Its just a smart intuitive screen and combined with the optical touchpad (which makes clicking links or selecting text so easy when you have big fingers like me) theres really nothing you cant do with it. The Universal Search feature is great too and makes you wonder “why havent I always had this as an option”. Thats how all my blackberrys have been though. World phone to the Curve to the Bold and now to the Torch and every time I’m thinking why cant all phones be made like this. They make sense. They enhance your life because life is about people and relationships and this one communicates with those relationships better than anything. I hate that Blackberrys arent as cool to own even though Kanye West Obama Justin Timberlake Lady Gaga Jay-Z T.I. etc all own blackberrys. (no A-list celeb needs to feel cooler by having a phone hence why most dont have iPhones.) But thats something I’m more than happy to give up in exchange for reliability and practicality.

If you own a Blackberry right now you will LOVE this phone. If you have ever owned and liked a Blackberry in the past, you will love this phone. If you are thinking about getting a Blackberry, you will love this phone. If you really like the iPhone or new Droid then go get one of those. They are good devices in their own right as well but as for all the aforementioned things, NOTHING will beat a Blackberry. Its just like anything else, cars women music sports its all just personal preference and theres no judgement for choosing whats best for you. But as for me, I prefer a phone that does what phones do.

Does anyone know when the Blackberry Torch 9800 will be available for purchase from NTT Docomo in Japan? They currently offer the Blackberry Curve and have done so for a long time but I’ve seen nothing for the Torch 9800. Any ideas? Thank you…
