A tablet with class is heading for market from the Canadians at Research In Motion. This is a brand new development with a popular operating system. Take a closer look at the Blackberry Playbook here in this informative article.
Forget the rumor that the Blackberry Playbook will not be made. It has already been seen in some places. The Blackberry site itself has all the features prominently displayed. So, what is it like ? The best one word to describe the new tablet is “professional”. It is fast and like the folks at crackberry say; “It is going to deliver.”.
The size of the Blackberry Playbook can be described as moderate. Dell tablets are smaller and Apple tablets are larger. This tablet is 7.6 inches by 5.1 inches by .41 inch. The display is seven inches and comes with a clear 600 by 1024 pixel resolution. Multi touch input is a feature along with an on-screen keyboard for typing. It is created as a capacitive touch model, not a resistive touch, so no stylus will be needed for navigation.
On the inside is some of the best news to come from Research In Motion in a long time. They have a new software company they happened to purchase back in April. They make the QNX Neutrino microkernel. This is a fancy way of saying they make the operating system of this Blackberry Playbook. The QNX system operates a bevy of machines, all the way up to nuclear reactors. If it controls a nuclear reactor, do you think it reliable in the Blackberry Playbook ? The obvious answer is yes. DaimlerChrysler also runs QNX Neutrino in their autos. QNX is user-friendly, has real multi-tasking and is reliable. It supports flash, java, webkit ( for a browser ), along with Blackberry’s new Webworks platform. Look for it to blow away competition with its features and speed.
Speaking of speed, the Blackberry Playbook sports a dual core processor. This also gives the tablet enough power to multitask with no problems. The amount of RAM is rated at one gigabyte, so that should tell you how much the Playbook can handle at any one time. When talking about multitasking, this tablet does not shut down a program when it is not being used. The iPad shuts down ( pauses ) a program and then restarts it when the user comes back to it. This is bad if you are running a program that only works in real time. The Playbook does not pause a program while multitasking. It continues to run freely in the background until the user decides to come back to it.
Blackberry gave the Playbook dual cameras and the ability to record high definition video. This is not just the 720p that some smartphones can do, it is much better. This tablet can ouput 1080p high definition videos. The rear camera has five megapixels of power, while the front camera has three. It supports four video formats; MPEG, DivX, WMV and H.264. When the user is done making a video, it can be exported using the included Micro HDMI connector or DLNA wireless feature.
This tablet can connect with other Blackberry smartphones. There is no need to synchronize the two for a connection. It is compatible with the Blackberry Enterprise Server. The battery will be high capacity and the internal memory rated for 64 gigabytes. This will be a true enterprise working machine. No prices are announced yet, but it will be available early next year.
