Blackberry Bold 9700 Vs iPhone 3GS

by Admin on May 3, 2010

What would the Blackberry Bold 9700 and the newest iPhone 3GS look like in a battle ? We are going to take a look at this quick fight right here in this article.

The formats of these phones are totally different. The iPhone sports a touch screen and the Blackberry has an optical trackpad. The benefits of keeping a manual keyboard are also dependent on the desires of the user. Is a touchscreen better than a manual keyboard ? Only you can decide that. The touchscreen on the iPhone model is a multitouch version. The screen is also bigger. When it comes to just comparing on screen size, the iPhone 3GS wins hands down.

How about speed ? Did you know the main difference in the newest iPhone and the last one is simply speed ? It is true. Comparing processor speed reveals that the Blackberry Bold 9700 is ahead, but not by much. The difference is just 24 megahertz. The camera on both models also have the same megapixel ability at three megapixels. The big difference in the photo taking ability is that the Blackberry model has a flash and the iPhone does not. iPhone users have wanted a flash for a long time. Maybe they will get one on the next model, but for now, the Blackberry wins in this department.

How about connectivity ? Both models have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Both have GSM connectivity on four bands. They also both have WCDMA, but the Blackberry can be modified depending on where you live. Wireless connectivity is fairly equal. Looking at internal memory is an ambiguous task. The iPhone comes in two models, one at 16 gigabytes of internal memory and another at 32 gigabytes. Thirty two gigabytes of internal memory is a lot. But the Blackberry has 128 megabytes ( with an “M” ) plus a MicroSD card slot of 32 gigabytes, if you have the card. When just adding up “bytes”, the Blackberry wins again.

Taking a comparison on the batteries reveals that they are close, but that again, the Blackberry can give you a longer talk time by one hour. The battery on the iPhone can not ( usually ) be replaced by the user. The battery is not designed to come out. But on the Blackberry, the battery is removable, which means you can carry around a spare battery and pop it in if you are getting low. This extends your talk time six hours further. Not being able to change out your own battery on the iPhone is a major fail. It is so easy and fast to change out a battery ! This is a win for the Blackberry.

Call quality on these models is not a contest. The other points are close, but this one is more clear. The Blackberry has better call quality. The battery and the call quality have been sore points for an iPhone for more than just this model. The overall winner in simple use of these two smartphones is the Blackberry Bold 9700.
