A Look At The Olympus SP-800UZ Camera

Olympus has once more added another model of camera into their long array of super zoom cameras, which is the Olympus SP-800UZ. It has a 30x optical zoom, and there are only actually two digital cameras that have this kind of feature. This feature is probably what makes it attractive to some people. This means that you can capture photos that are significantly far and significantly close without the need to change your lenses. The angle of view of this camera model of Olympus is 840mm equivalent telephoto lens, while most of its competitors have 624mm-676mm. However, the difference is not that enormous contrary to what the numbers imply.

Unlike dSLR’s, the SP-800UZ is amazingly light, but it’s not something to get excited about because you will encounter blurry problems when taking shots at the maximum zooming range. You will really find it difficult to control the device. The built-in image stabilization cannot totally ease the blur problem, but a shutter with great speed can. But unfortunately, the SP-800 UZ doesn’t have this thing either. However, you may use the Sports scene mode or an ISO with a high speed. Both of them can replace the function of a shutter.

ISO can range from as low as 100 to as high as 6,400, and if one exceeds beyond the recommended ISO, expect that the images will be not be as flawless. You may need to use a tripod and the recommended ISO range to minimize blurs. If possible, you can request the subject to keep still.

With all the observations stated above, it is safe to conclude that the Olympus SP-800UZ is not a camera worth recommending to some people. There are a lot of features as well as function buttons missing in this device that are deemed very important for people who are inclined to photography. The settings seem to be a bit complicated like, for instance, in setting the ISO alone wherein you have to check on it on the menu before taking photos, which could’ve been easier if it had a designated button for this specific function. This camera is just right for people who do not care much about the settings, but rather on its super zoom function.

To summarize, the Olympus SP-800UZ is a great camera that can pass the standards of point-and-shoot camera users and this, on the other hand, is definitely a flop to creative photographers because the features are not enough to give them perfect shots.
