As I previously said abut cool productivity apps, Android is a great platform for managing your time and work, and there are a lot of really good apps that can make your life and business more productive. Tons of new apps are released every single month (March 2010 has seen a record of nearly 10,000 new apps released, and the number has grown since then!).
The new Android 2.2 Froyo is even more stable and feature packed than the previous version and the update should go without any problems, so you should definitely upgrade your phone when the new version becomes available for it.
Now, let’s take a look at a few more great productivity apps for the Android OS, this time a bit more specific and niche-oriented.
Twitter has finally released its own official application for Android, and it’s the best one yet. They have worked closely with the team behind Android, and have implemented features that no other clients have and made the app rock solid. The main feature though is the ability to sync someone’s Twitter information with the Android’s calendar and phone book, so that their bio, picture, description and other information is automatically shown in all apps and is kept up to date with the person’s Twitter account.
Math Alarm Clock
If you really can’t wake up in the morning and need something to stimulate you even before you are out of bed, this awesome app could help you. It is a great alarm clock that has a lot of unique features designed to wake you up like using random music every time it goes off and making you solve math problems before you can turn it off, which is an amazingly great way of waking one up (tried it myself
.
Astrid
Astrid is one of the best task managers available for Android. At first, it seems pretty simple and like any other task manager, but once you discover all of the hidden features under the drop down menus, you’ll definitely change your mind. You will really love it once you get used to it.
Mobile Banking
Bank of America has finally released their Mobile Banking for the Android OS, and it’s pretty good. It allows you to view your account’s balance, transfer money and locate any Bank of America ATM using your phone’s GPS receiver and Google Maps. It’s free and you should definitely get it if you have an account with BoA.
Voice Recorder
If you need to record anything for a longer time than the integrated recorder allows, Voice Recorder is the app for you. It lets you record anything for as long as your memory allows, which is most often hours. Otherwise it is a pretty simple application; it only lets you specify the quality of the recording and the location of the files.
SlideScreen Pro
This is a home screen replacement program that is designed to help you process the information better and faster. It looks suspiciously similar to Windows 7 Phone’s home screen, and that’s because it’s really very effective at managing your tasks easier. One look at the screen and you know what you have to do, where you have to be, who called you and how many emails you received. It is also completely customizable to your liking, which is a perk you get only with an Android smart phone.
Any Cut
This is a great app that helps you speed up things you do every day by allowing you to place a direct shortcut on the home screen for almost any function or task. You could, for example, place a call, send an email or SMS or download your entire RSS reading list for the day (using a third party app) with just one tap on the home screen.
Wifi Hotspot Locator
If you are out and about in an unknown town and urgently need a quicker Internet connection, this application could come in pretty handy. It allows you to locate over 100,000 hotspots all over major US and worldwide cities and towns. You can filter the search by public, private, paid or free and the hotspots will be displayed on your Google Maps app immediately. The database is updated daily and you can get the latest update by connection to the Internet.
Toddler Lock
Having a baby isn’t that great for productivity, as they can always do something to draw you attention from work. This brilliant app will quiet them down and keep the occupied for quite a while (and it works on 90% of all toddlers
by letting them view bright and interesting objects, draw anything on the screen and doing other random things on your phone. The lock is removed by a complex press of keys, so there’s no way the baby could accidentally remove it. The only bad thing that may happen is the baby dropping your phone (and breaking or damaging it).
There is really no shortage of good and cool apps for Android. You can literally find anything you want on the marketplace. Just perform a search for any keyword you want and don’t be surprised when you actually find something
