7 Cool iPad Apps Which You Should Check Out

by Admin on September 8, 2010

The iPad has been selling really well since it was released and everyone loves it. The amount of things it can do has given a lot of people the freedom they needed to accomplish their tasks and plans. But application developers have been struggling to release apps that are compatible both with the iPhone and iPad, and they haven’t been too successful yet.

That’s why Apple decided to let them create apps that are specifically compatible with iPad and versions that are made specifically for the iPhone. The main difference between them is the screen size and the manner in which they are used.

The iPhone is a mobile device, so it needs to be able to do things faster and without much looking at the screen, while the iPad is more of an universal computer, which, while much more portable than a laptop, is still not pocket-worthy. That’s why apps optimized for each one are a good idea. Here are some of the cool iPad apps that have been specifically optimized for the iPad:

Groovemaker

Groovemaker is one of the first apps of its kind. It is a DJ mixer tool that lets you record and mix loops, adjust sound levels, add drums and other instruments and do other editing with any songs. It is an ideal app for DJ’s (obviously) and for various parties if you don’t have access to professional equipment (why would you pay for it when your iPad does all of that?).

WeatherBug Elite

WeatherBug is a great iPad application, with a very cool interface. The reason why it’s so successful for the iPad is because the screen is big enough to display a wealth of data and fit a large map where you can see everything. The app itself is, of course, a weather information application, which shows you lots of information about the weather in your area, including wind speed (with contour maps!), forecasts, live web cam videos, satellite data and other things. It’s very cool for the everyday user and could be pretty useful for a professional meteorologist or weatherman.

Keynote

This is a perfect application for displaying attractive slideshows at meetings or simply demonstrating something to someone. Entrepreneurs can use it for their pitches, students can use it for presentations at school, and other people can surely find other great applications for Keynote. The stock artwork and templates are pretty good –they’re made by Apple, after all, but you can design and use your custom ones if you like.

SketchBook Pro

Sketchbook is pretty good on the iPhone, but due to it being a sketching app, you certainly need a bigger screen to work comfortably. The iPad is perfect for that, that’s why the developers optimized this app for it. Now you can sketch any ideas or portraits (if you are an art student) with its great tools, which are almost on par with those in Photoshop.

OmniGraffle

This is another great app that has gotten a boost after the iPad has been released. It is a tool for creating diagrams and schemes, but you can easily use it for architecture sketching and mind maps creation. The iPad’s bigger screen makes it so much easier to use and you can actually fit everything you may need inside the standard resolution, without going over borders.

Pianist Pro

This is a very cool looking app for the iPad, and what it does is simulate a piano, so you can learn to play one without ever touching a real one. Obviously, there are differences, but for learning purposes, it’s more than enough. This app is yet another reason why the iPad or similar tablets are good for schools and teaching children.

AIM

AIM is probably the least known Instant Messaging program (it’s from AOL, after all :-) , but it’s still used by a few million people worldwide, so you can’t just ignore it. If you happen to be working with someone and they sent you their AIM ID, you can now communicate with them using your iPad and this beautiful client app. It looks very good, and it works just as it should. You can chat and send files via AIM – exactly what you need.

The number of apps optimized for the iPad will continue to grow, and that can only be a good thing, as apps that are universally compatible with both the iPhone and iPad can’t be really good because of the screen size differences (the hardware specs don’t count because the new iPhone 4 has the same technical specs as the iPad, aside from the screen). That’s why it’s much better to have the same app optimized for your iPad and iPhone installed separately. You should definitely give the above apps a try when you have the time, they can be really useful or at least fun!
